Carson Water Subconservancy District names Brenda Hunt as new Watershed Coordinator
CARSON CITY, Nev. — Brenda Hunt has joined the Carson Water Subconservancy District staff as its new Watershed Coordinator. She replaces Genie Azad who left the district after nine years. Genie will continue natural resources work as a consultant.
Hunt earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Natural Resources from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Masters of Art in Environmental Science from Monash University located near Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
While earning her Master’s degree in Australia, she had the opportunity to work with many stakeholder groups. During this time, Brenda learned the art of finding common ground to resolve conflicts. Brenda has more than 20 years of environmental employment experience with non-profits and local and regional governmental organizations, said District General Manager Ed James.
"Her education and work experience has solidified her love of the natural environment and enhanced her desire to use what she has learned to help people reconnect with their natural surroundings," he said. "As a resident of Carson City, Brenda has a passion for the Carson River Watershed."
In her free time, Brenda enjoys traveling with her husband and son, playing ultimate Frisbee, and hiking and biking.
The Carson Water Subconservancy District, or CWSD, is a unique multi-county, bi-state agency dedicated to establishing a balance between the needs of the communities within the Carson River Watershed and the function of the river system. Its 13-member Board of Directors consists of representatives from each of the five counties within the watershed plus two representatives from the agricultural community. Granted no regulatory authority of its own, the CWSD’s mission is to work within existing governmental frameworks to promote cooperative action for the watershed that crosses both agency and political boundaries. The CWSD strives to involve all counties and communities within the watershed in the efforts to preserve the rich history and unique resources of the Carson River Watershed.
