CARSON CITY — As part of the “I am Carson River Watershed” Campaign, the Carson Water Subconservancy District has launched Watershed Moments, a series of public service announcements to help engage and inform Nevadans about steps they can take to foster a healthy watershed throughout 2022.

The Carson River Coalition’s virtual Watershed Wednesdays Forum continues this week on March 10 with a session highlighting recreation in our region. Participants will find 2-1/2 hours of dynamic presentations from 8 speakers championing recreation in the Carson River Watershed.

Local non-profit GREENevada announced Thursday the winners of the 2020 Golden Pinecone Sustainability Awards, a prestigious annual event recognizing local individuals and organizations working towards a more sustainable Nevada.

CARSON CITY — Did you know you live in a watershed? Everyone does. The "I Am Carson River Watershed" campaign aims to connect our community to the watershed they live in and provide a few easy-to-do actions that can help keep our water healthy.

The Carson River Coalition in conjunction with the Carson Water Subconservancy District invites you to the 2020 Carson River Watershed Management Forum. This year’s forum will be a 2-day event at Marlette Hall, Cedar Building, Western Nevada College, Carson City.

• Tuesday, March 10, 2020: 9 am – 4:30 pm
Day 1 events will focus on water quality and watershed health from our science and land management partners.

• Wednesday, March 11, 2020, 9 am – 4:30 pm

This past Saturday, a group of passionate hikers braced the wind at Riverview Park for the Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department’s second annual Watershed Walk.

Fluvial Geomorphologist Lynn Zonge and CWSD Watershed Program Specialist Shane Fryer shared their extensive knowledge of the Carson River Watershed with the group.

Hello Carson City and welcome to Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019. With snow plow efforts underway and a warm-up from Mother Nature, it looks like the morning commute will be a slushy one. Carson City schools will operate today at normal start times. That all may change tomorrow though as a significant winter storm is expected to bring snow and rain to the valley and feet of snow to Lake Tahoe and the Sierra. Stay tuned.

The Carson Water Subconservancy District announced this week the selection of Lynn Zonge to receive the 2019 Andy Aldax Carson River Watershed Award for Exemplary Service in Conservation and Protection of the Carson River Watershed.

The Carson River Watershed "Get on the Bus" tour will cover a variety of watershed topics and locations from the headwaters in Alpine County, CA to the terminus at the Carson Sink near Fallon.

Join us for a fun and informative two-day Carson River Watershed tour on June 7-8. Meet at Smith's parking lot each day to "Get on the Bus" and travel the upper watershed from Alpine County to Carson City on Day 1, June 7, and from Carson City to Fallon on Day 2, June 8.

The Carson Water Subconservancy District has selected Mark Kimbrough to receive the 2016 Andy Aldax Carson River Watershed Award for Exemplary Service in Conservation and Protection of the Carson River Watershed. The award, created in 2007, recognizes individuals or organizations that actively demonstrate a 10-plus year commitment and accomplish plans and projects to improve and sustain the Carson River Watershed.

CARSON CITY—The Carson River Coalition (CRC) with the Carson Water Subconservancy District (CWSD) is hosting a public CRC meeting on October 21, 2015 from 9am-1pm at the Carson City Public Library, Digitorium Room, 900 N. Roop Street, Carson City, NV. Daniel P. Beard, Former Commissioner at the Bureau of Reclamation and Author of Deadbeat Dams is the keynote speaker. His talk will give a unique perspective on water issues and policies facing the western states.

Carson River Coalition’s Floodplain Management Forum

Due to the ongoing drought, limited water in the Carson River impacts fish and wildlife habitats, especially by the end of summer. To enhance flows along the West Fork of the Carson River, the Carson Water Subconservancy District is utilizing their storage water rights to supplement water in the watershed.

The Carson Water Subconservancy District is offering a two-day bus tour of the Carson River Watershed from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on June 11-12, 2014. The Carson River Watershed “Get on the Bus Tour” will cover a variety of watershed topics and locations from the headwaters in Alpine County, CA to the terminus at the Carson Sink near Fallon.

Register is underway to attend the Carson River Watershed Bus Tour. The Carson Water Subconservancy District will host its annual 2-day bus tour of the Carson River Watershed on June 13 and 14, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day.

CARSON CITY, Nev. — Brenda Hunt has joined the Carson Water Subconservancy District staff as its new Watershed Coordinator. She replaces Genie Azad who left the district after nine years. Genie will continue natural resources work as a consultant.
Hunt earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Natural Resources from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Masters of Art in Environmental Science from Monash University located near Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
