Signups begin for June 11-12 Carson River Watershed Bus Tour
The Carson Water Subconservancy District is offering a two-day bus tour of the Carson River Watershed from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on June 11-12, 2014. The Carson River Watershed “Get on the Bus Tour” will cover a variety of watershed topics and locations from the headwaters in Alpine County, CA to the terminus at the Carson Sink near Fallon.
Among the expected stops are Heenan Lake, Markleeville Creek, the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park, The Nature Conservancy’s River Fork Ranch, Carson City Quill Water Treatment Plant, Buckland Station, Lahontan Dam, Newlands Project, Churchill County Museum, and Soda Lake Recreational Area.
Experts will cover several topics including water rights; river restoration projects; water quality and quantity; floodplain management; invasive species; agriculture; recreation; fisheries and habitat; and education/outreach programs.
Refreshments and lunch will be provided each day. Videos and discussions will keep travelers informed en route between stops.
The two-day tour cost is $100 on or before May 23, 2014, and $125 thereafter. For more information and to register, contact CWSD at 777 E.
