After four weeks of content, the annual Carson River Coalition Watershed Forum wraps up with a final session on March 31st. Hosted by the Carson Water Subconservancy District (CWSD), the last installment of Watershed Wednesdays will dive into Floodplain Management in the Carson River Watershed.

CARSON CITY — In the fourth session of the Carson River Coalition’s Watershed Wednesdays’ forum, speakers will tackle one of the big issues facing rural and urban communities alike: Climate Change.

CARSON CITY — Watershed Wednesdays made a splash after its first two weeks with more than 100 viewers and counting. In the third session of the forum, March 17, the Carson River Coalition goes back to basics, revisiting its original 1998 mandate to protect and conserve floodplains in the Carson River Watershed.

CARSON CITY — The Carson River Coalition’s virtual Watershed Wednesdays Forum, continues this week on March 10 with a session highlighting recreation in our region. Participants will find 2-1/2 hours of dynamic presentations from 8 speakers championing recreation in the Carson River Watershed.

Local non-profit GREENevada announced Thursday the winners of the 2020 Golden Pinecone Sustainability Awards, a prestigious annual event recognizing local individuals and organizations working towards a more sustainable Nevada.

Douglas County and the State of Nevada is hosting an in person educational event to inform citizens on flood preparation on November 17, 2020 from 3-4:30pm in the Ranch View Room of the Douglas County Community and Senior Center.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will be held Thursday, July 2 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

On the docket for discussion includes residential building permit allocations for the next four years, new committee members for the Redevelopment Authority Citizens Committee, amendment to the diesel tax and more.

CARSON CITY — Did you know you live in a watershed? Everyone does. The "I Am Carson River Watershed" campaign aims to connect our community to the watershed they live in and provide a few easy-to-do actions that can help keep our water healthy.

The Carson River Coalition in conjunction with the Carson Water Subconservancy District invites you to the 2020 Carson River Watershed Management Forum. This year’s forum will be a 2-day event at Marlette Hall, Cedar Building, Western Nevada College, Carson City.

• Tuesday, March 10, 2020: 9 am – 4:30 pm
Day 1 events will focus on water quality and watershed health from our science and land management partners.

• Wednesday, March 11, 2020, 9 am – 4:30 pm

The Carson City Board of Supervisors will host their next meeting on Thursday, Jan. 16 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

On the docket for discussion items include a report on deaths occurring at the Carson City Jail, a discussion about restricting religious use at the Brewery Arts Center, presentations of length of service awards, and more.

The Carson Water Subconservancy District announced this week the selection of Lynn Zonge to receive the 2019 Andy Aldax Carson River Watershed Award for Exemplary Service in Conservation and Protection of the Carson River Watershed.

The Carson Water Subconservancy District is offering a two-day bus tour of the Carson River Watershed. The Carson River Watershed “Get on the Bus” Tour will cover a variety of watershed topics and locations from the headwaters in Alpine County, Calif., to a tour of the Lahontan Dam and Gate House near Fallon.

River Wranglers (RW), a youth-oriented watershed education organization based in Carson City, has just wrapped up its fall season.

RW’s Education and Outreach Coordinator Julia Keane led students through different programs that focus specifically on the Carson River Watershed.

Keane came on board in October of 2017 as an AmeriCorps Member from the Sierra Nevada AmeriCorps Partnership (SNAP).

The Carson Water Subconservancy District is hosting a contest to guess what the spring peak runoff will be on the Carson River at the Carson City gauge. The calculation will be based on the daily average cubic feet per second (cfs) flow at the Carson City gauge.

This Wednesday, join our students and community. Come out and enjoy a night of hands-on fun. Make a paper airplane, a gumdrop and toothpick bridge, build with LEGOS and use robotic arms.

Three busloads of Carson City students arrived at Ambrose Carson River Natural Area Wednesday to study the Carson River watershed. Seventy-four high school biology students, trained by River Wranglers and Carson City Weed Coalition, met more than 90 fourth grade students and set about teaching and learning.
