HopeFest concert draws hundreds for cancer patients
Area cancer patients will benefit from funds raised at the sixth annual HopeFest concert held Friday night at Carson-Tahoe Cancer Center in Carson City.
The free outdoor benefit concert, featuring the headlining band "The Waybacks" from San Francisco, California, drew a crowd of hundreds.
All proceeds from food, refreshments and raffle ticket sales Friday will go directly to support local cancer patients undergoing critical medical treatment and provide for their basic needs.
“In addition to facing a life-threatening cancer diagnosis, many patients are also faced with an overwhelming anxiety due to the unplanned expenses which come with such a devastating diagnosis,” said Kitty McKay, Foundation Director at Carson Tahoe Health. “The funds raised at HopeFest provide critical support of no-cost lodging (for rural cancer patients in need) and assistance with necessities such as gas cards to get to treatment, insurance co-pays and life-saving medications.”
The fundraiser's raffle was sponsored by Dick Campagni’s car dealerships, which for the past nine years has donated the choice of a new car or $10,000 as the grand raffle prize.
Local restaurants J's Old Town Bistro and the Cracker Box provided food at the concert, while refreshments were served by Lagunitas and Southern Wine and Spirits.
