Nevada Rural Housing Authority and Wells Fargo Foundation deliver renovations and hope to Carson City resident
Nevada Rural Housing Authority has completed renovations at one of its subsidized, single-family rental properties in Carson City.
The work was made possible by a $15,000 grant from the Wells Fargo Foundation. The grant was matched by NRHA and the $30,000 total afforded new interior and exterior paint, a new HVAC system, a new refrigerator, a new water heater, all new flooring, new rain gutters, fence repair and new landscaping.
A house is not a home without a resident, of course, and this home is full of love and gratitude from Genesis Ansah and her two sons. They have lived in the home for three months and believe finding the rental was a gift from above.
“I thought it was too good to be true,” Ansah said. “I’m a single mother, the price range was right on point and it was a big house for me and my two boys — it just fit us. I went to view it, and said, ‘Please, Lord, make this for me.’”
Ansah said when she moved in, she didn’t know about the upcoming upgrades and they came as a pleasant surprise.
“My yard — they did my lovely yard,” she added. “With the virus, these kids are in the house and need something to do. It gives my youngest somewhere to go play. Plus, this is the first time the boys have had separate bedrooms. Just them having their own space is a blessing.”
Because of its strong and collaborative partnership with the Wells Fargo Foundation, NRHA can complete projects like this and fulfill its mission to provide affordable housing opportunities for all rural Nevadans.
“We are honored to work side by side with NRHA to help ensure safe, sanitary and affordable housing for Nevadans,” said Nancy Hamilton, Wells Fargo Bank Nevada vice president of community development. “We look forward to future opportunities to contribute to stories like Genesis’.”
Nevada Rural Housing Authority owns and oversees the management of 14 multi-family and seven single-family rental properties throughout rural Nevada, many of which Wells Fargo Bank and the Wells Fargo Foundation have had a role through development financing and subsequent project grants. NRHA’s properties provide a real sense of home to those who not only need a place to live, but an opportunity to thrive.
“It has done a lot for my family,” Ansah said. “The house is amazing and this is a great place to live and raise children. It’s close to a park, the library and the post office – I actually work for the post office in Reno, and I might even try to move to the location in my new neighborhood, closer to home.”
