Concert Under the Stars venue set to soar Wednesday at Carson City's Eagle Valley Golf Course
A Carson City live music favorite, Concert Under the Stars, is set to soar this Wednesday night. With hours ticking, construction was well underway Tuesday at Eagle Valley Golf Course at Centennial Park, a new venue for the show and its future.
Helping with set up was John Procaccini, who produces the concert for The Greenhouse Project and helped start the blockbuster event with Charlie and Karen Abowd more than a decade ago, with its beginnings in the Cafe at Adele's parking lot.
Since that time, Concert Under the Stars outgrew two locations. First, the parking lot of Adele's, and then again at the parking lot of the Brewery Arts Center, where the Levitt-Amp concert series is staged this summer.
"The growth of the event just became rapid at that point," said Procaccini. "There was no way we could sustain any growth plan downtown."
According to Procaccini, Tom Duncan of Duncan Golf Management and the Eagle Valley Golf Course offered the space, and Concert Under the Stars was more than willing to accept.
"As you can see size-wise," said Procaccini, gesturing to the huge stage and white tents being set up at the golf course's driving range, "it's probably not much bigger than at the Brewery Arts Center. But this allows us a lot more walking space and it doesn't feel so cramped."
In addition, the driving range itself is massive, and they are currently only setting up on one area of it. As the event grows, they'll be able to grow the space as well.
"At this point, the range is set up for a 1,200 capacity event," said Procaccini, "We could move 20 feet that way and expand it to 1,600 people, we can expand 20 feet the other way and expand to 2,000 people. As the event grows, we can move the space to fit our needs."
Another new aspect of the concert is that they'll be featuring three headlining acts instead of one headlining act and one opener act, he said. Classic 70s and early 80s bands Poco, Pure Prairie League and Firefall will be displaying their musical talents for the evening.
Tickets are selling fast, and more than 1,100 have already been sold. As of Tuesday night there are approximately 35 tickets left up for grabs. All net proceeds of the event will go toward The Greenhouse Project.
