Fourth of July carnival opens today
The annual Fourth of July celebration at Mills Park kicked off at 5 p.m. Friday with carnival festivities. Rides and games run until around 10 or 11 p.m. tonight, carnival owner Jason Wold said.
Wold said his company has worked with event coordinator RSVP to produce the Fourth of July carnival at Mills Park for about a decade.
He said his carnival did its best business in 2015, and he is hopeful this weekend will be a repeat of last year.
"We're hoping to do as good as last year," Wold said. "Last year we had our best Fourth of July ever since we've been here."
The only concern, Wold said, is that this is the second carnival at Mills Park in less than a month, and he is unsure if June's Nevada State Fair will affect interest in this weekend's carnival activities.
"The big concern is that there was a carnival here three weeks ago," he said.
But Wold added that the Fourth of July has always been one of his company's biggest events in Nevada, and he is confident about a strong turn out.
The Fourth of July carnival at Mills Park runs through Monday, July 4. Hours are Saturday and Sunday, noon to about 11 p.m., and also Monday, 11 a.m. to around 11 p.m.
