Get Ready For School: Clothing drive and distribution July 28 in Carson City
Clothing for school-aged children will be available free of charge or obligation and open to the public on Saturday, July 28, from 9 a.m. to noon at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel located at 411 N. Saliman Road, Carson City, south of Carson High School.
The Relief Society, a local women’s organization of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is hosting its tenth annual clothing drive to assist families in the Carson City and surrounding communities to obtain clothes for school.
“Since 2008, it has been our pleasure to sponsor this annual event to assist families with children. Our goal is to reduce the stress parents’ face in getting their children ready for the coming school year,” said David Haws, President of the Carson City Nevada Stake, The Church’s local organization.
For community members who would like to help, contributions of new or clean gently used clothing donations for children will be gratefully accepted. “This year we are focusing on pre-teen and teen clothes and every size for boys.” said Linda Forbes, President of the Church’s local women’s organization. Clothing donations may be dropped off on Friday, July 27, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at 411 N. Saliman Road, Carson City, Nevada.
Forbes said the annual event provides gently used clothing free of charge. The event focuses on school-aged children Kindergarten to Grade 12. “We invite families to pick up free clothing for all age groups to prepare for school,” said Forbes.
Providing service to others is central to the Mormon belief of following the example of Jesus Christ. This is a non-denominational event open to the public.
