'Sassafras' to replace closing B'Sghetti's restaurant
While Carson City residents were mourning the loss of B'Sghetti's restaurant this week, it appears that plans for a new eatery named Sassafras were coming together behind the scenes.
Sassafras will be a "chalkboard restaurant" with a changing menu focusing on fresh, local foods, according to a press release sent to Carson Now. The restaurant will be a partnership between Chef Anthong "Tony" Fish who currently operates "The Grill" at Mo and Sluggo's, and B'Sghetti's owner Scott Doerr, along with Carl Ceccarelli and Jayme Watts.
The press release also announced that The Grill at Mo & Sluggo's will be changing to Mayhem Pizza & Grinders.
Here the text of the press release they just sent out that explains what is going on:
"Sassafras" Eclectic Food Joint will soon replace B'Sghetti's following its closure on June 30th.
Sassafras is a collaboration between Chef Anthong "Tony" Fish (Currently operating "The Grill" at Mo and Sluggo's) and B'Sghetti's owner Scott Doerr along with Carl Ceccarelli and Jayme Watts. We are thrilled to announce this partnership between two of the area's most experienced restaurant operators. Tony's seared Ahi BLT most recently won the "Best Taste" award in the June 18th, 2011 "Taste of Downtown" event for Mo and Sluggo's and B'Sghetti's won "Best Atmosphere".
"Sassafras" will be known as a "Chalkboard Restaurant" meaning it has the flexibility of an ever-changing menu that will allow our kitchen staff to incorporate the influences of the many styles and cuisines that they have worked with over the years. It will also allow the restaurant to commit whole-heartedly to freshness with local vendors, whole foods, farms, breweries, wineries, bakeries, coffee roasters and organic products whenever available.
It is our desire to give our community a legitimate reason to eat and drink local and fresh. We believe that it is a vanishing are and now, more than ever, we have to emphasize and strengthen our neighborhood. We want to provide our guests with a unique dining experience at SASSAFRAS that doesn't resemble large scale corporate plates, or anything that you will prepare at home.
In cooperation with Morey Tresnit (Owner/Gentleman of Mo and Sluggo's), the operators will also open "Mayhem Pizza & Grinders" within the existing kitchen space of Mo and Sluggo's Bar and Grill. We are excited about the opportunity to remain in this community and continue to serve our loyal clientele.
