Carson City sheriff’s arrest log: Woman jailed on suspicion of felony hit and run

A 26-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Monday on suspicion of felony hit and run causing injury after a vehicle crash near the intersection of Saliman and Long streets, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Gissell Resendiz was taken into custody at 3:17 p.m. in the area of Rand and William Street. She also faces misdemeanor charges of failure to maintain a lane of travel and failure to render aid at a vehicle accident.

According to the arrest report, deputies responded at 2:55 p.m. to a hit and run crash at the intersection of North Saliman and East Long Street. A green Jeep Grand Cherokee hit a Toyota mini-van occupied by the driver, a caregiver for adults with special needs, and three client passengers. Two of the passengers were treated for minor injuries.

A deputy who arrived at the scene met with a man who said he stopped to see if the occupants inside the minivan were OK. The female driver of the mini-van told him hat she was hit by a green Jeep Cherokee and that it backed away from her and turned east onto East Long Street, the arrest report states.

After speaking with the woman, the man drove down East Long Street and noticed the Jeep was stopped in front of a Long Street address, the arrest report states. The man explained to deputies that he stopped his truck directly in front of the unoccupied Jeep so it couldn’t leave again and then called the sheriff’s office.

After speaking with the man, an officer went to check on the four occupants of the mini-van. As he was speaking to the driver, the man ran toward the officer and said the driver of the Jeep was in a red sedan that was going south on North Saliman. The deputy stopped the sedan, occupied by a female driver, two children and a female passenger.

The officer asked who had been driving the green Jeep. The woman seated in the passenger seat said she was. The officer asked the woman what happened. The woman replied: “I hit another car,” the arrest report states. The officer asked the driver why she didn’t stop. The woman said she had food in her car that she was taking to her children. Bail: $40,724.
