Carson City arrests: Woman jailed after child found wandering, looking for his mom

A Dayton woman was arrested early Tuesday morning in the 1100 block of Woodside Drive for gross misdemeanor suspicion of child neglect and endangerment and a parole and probation violation, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the area at 5:15 a.m. for a welfare check on a 6-year-old child who was walking around the apartment complex alone and looking for his mother. The boy said the last time he saw his mom was when he went to sleep at around 9 p.m.

The child said he was scared because he and his Mom live in Dayton and he didn't know where he was at. The child stated he was walking around asking people where his mother was. He stated he didn't have a phone or a phone number that he could get in touch with his mom. The boy was asked by a deputy where his mother might be. The boy stated she was probably out partying. Deputies noted that the child was walking outside and the temperature was around 36 degrees.

A deputy entered a residence where the boy had been staying. The residence appeared clean but was cold and the thermostat was not turned on. The child had been walking around in thin pajama-style clothing and had a small blanket to keep warm, the arrest report states.

There was a safety check on the apartment conducted for any other persons in the home and the boy was the only person in the residence. Deputies attempted getting in contact with the boy's mother via her cell phone but were unsuccessful. A deputy responded to nearby casinos attempting to located the woman but she was not found. The Department of Child and Family Services was notified of the situation and were dispatched to the apartment.

While waiting for DCFS to respond, a woman attempted to enter the apartment. She identified herself as the mother. The woman told deputies she had been at a friend's house all night and stated she had a babysitter hired to watch the boy while she was gone. The deputy asked for the sitter's name and the mother was unable to provide a name, saying the babysitter was a friend and then saying she found the babysitter on a Facebook babysitting page. She was unable to provide the Facebook page and any messages to deputies.

Dispatch advised the woman was an ex-felon who was on probation with conditions including not to drink. She had an odor of alcohol on her person. She said she had not been drinking. She was asked if she would submit to a preliminary breath test. She stated she would and provided a sample of .035. The woman's probation officer was advised she had been drinking and she was arrested at 6:11 a.m.

Bail for the child neglect and endangerment charge is $2,500. She is on a "no bail" hold through parole and probation.

In other arrests:
A 37-year-old Grand Rapids, Mich., man was arrested late Tuesday for a felony fugitive from justice warrant and domestic battery, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Patrick Lamont Jones was taken into custody in the 3800 block of South Carson Street at 11:39 p.m. The fugitive from justice warrant carries a "no bail" hold, with the suspect to be extradited back to Michigan.

According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to a hotel for a domestic battery call. As officers approached the room, the suspect was seen coming out with a beer in his hand. One deputy stayed with the suspect while a second deputy spoke to the victim.

The victim stated she was in the room eating her dinner as her boyfriend was at a casino having drinks. She said she received a phone call on the room phone from the front desk stating the man was asking for room information.

The victim said she told the front desk person to put Jones on the phone. She said when he got on the phone he was angry and yelling at her because he attempted to call her phone and didn't get an answer.

The victim stated she told the man the room number. When he arrived he was upset and began arguing about the victim not answering her phone with the man called. The victim said she felt like something bad was going to happen and she called 911 and left the phone on the bed so that dispatch could hear what was going on.

She stated that as the two were arguing, the man hit her on the right side of her face. She said she was unable to recall if the man's strike to the face was with an open or closed fist. The investigating deputy observed the woman's face, which showed a red mark on her left cheek bone right below her right eye as well as a cut on the inside of her lip that was swollen. The woman was asked if she had been drinking. She said she had one drink that night.

A deputy spoke with the suspect who stated he and the woman had been drinking at a business in the evening and stated the two came back to the hotel for a couple more drinks. He said the woman wanted to go back to their room. He told the officer he went back to the hotel and forgot the room number and attempted to call the woman. He said he then asked the person at the front counter of the hotel for the room number, the arrest report states.

The man stated he became irritated because the front counter person wouldn't tell him the woman's room number. He stated when he got back to the room he was mad and confronted the woman about not answering her phone. He was asked if he punched the woman in the face. Jones said he did not and started to raise his voice stating he doesn't hit women. He admitted to having multiple drinks throughout the night but wasn't specific about many he had, the report states.

A deputy performed a records check on the man and dispatch advised he had an extraditable felony warrant out of Michigan, issued by the state's Department of Corrections on Feb. 15, 2018 for being a parole absconder. The warrant was confirmed and the man was arrested.
