Carson City public works to break ground on first phase of water facility
The Carson City Public Works Department will hold a March 21 groundbreaking ceremony for the Phase 1A improvements at the Water Resource Recovery Facility. The $30 million project is for the repair and rehabilitation of major components of the sewer plant to ensure continued compliance with State and Federal permits.
Some of the repair and rehabilitation includes new standby generators for emergency power, improvements to the existing control system and electrical components, rehabilitation of the existing digesters, mixing and heating equipment, construction of a new bioreactor tank for pollution and nutrient removal, and a new secondary clarifier to support the system.
All of the new process equipment is replacing existing process equipment that is 35 years old and older. This phase of the project is expected to be completed by September 2019.
The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. with the groundbreaking by the Carson City Board of Supervisors. It is located at 3320 East 5th Street.
Project partners are: KG Walters / Q&D Construction, a Joint Venture – General Contractor and Carollo Engineer, Inc. – Lead Designer. Construction oversight will be managed by the Carson City Public Works Department.
Parking is limited on site, so please ride-share if possible.
