String of fraudulent check-cashing throughout region comes to an end in Carson City with arrest of New Jersey man
A 42-year-old New Jersey man was arrested in the 3400 block of Market Street for five felonies including attempting to obtain money under false pretenses, forgery by uttering a forged instrument, and obtaining and using the person ID of another for an unlawful purpose.
According to the report, David Christopher Rudnicki was arrested at a local bank in reference to a man attempting to cash a fraudulent check.
Deputies located the man at the bank and told him to put his hands behind his back, to which he complied. They took him outside and he declined to speak with them.
Deputies asked for his identification. While one deputy went to get it from inside the bank, Rudnicki admitted that the ID the deputy was getting did not have his real name on it. He said he wanted to cooperate and gave deputies his real name.
Deputies spoke with an employee of the bank who stated they had received a call from a manager of another bank branch at around 9:35 a.m. who told them to be on the look out for a subject attempting to cash fraudulent checks who had just left their branch. They gave a detailed description of the man.
At 9:45 a.m., a man matching the description entered their bank and made contact with a teller, who then immediately went to call the police.
According to the employee, multiple branches in Sparks and Reno had sent out e-mails to branch managers advising them of the man and his fraudulent activity during the past few days.
He was taken into custody without issue.

— A 40-year-old Reno man was arrested in the area of Highway 50 and Deer Run for felony possession of a concealed weapon without a permit, driving without proper head lamps, driving with fictitious/revoked registration, and driving without proof of insurance.
According to the report, Timothy Richard Rowen was arrested after deputies were patrolling the area of Highway 50 E. when they noticed a vehicle traveling without a working headlight.
Deputies stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver, who said he did not have his license on him, and had no proof of registration or insurance. A passenger in the vehicle was asked for his identification, to which the passenger said he did not have any.
Deputies asked if there were any weapons in the vehicle, and Rowen said yes there was a .22 caliber rifle in the very back of the vehicle. When asked if there were any other weapons in the vehicle, Rowen said yes and eventually admitted to having a 9mm pistol concealed on his person.
Deputies asked if he had a concealed carry permit and he said “I used to, I think it expired.”
Deputies asked where he was coming from, and he said he and the passenger had been shooting all day in the desert. When asked where he was going, he stated home to Washoe Valley. When asked why he was headed east on Highway 50 if he was going home to Washoe Valley, Rowen stated he was going to “take the back road home” from Deer Run.
When deputies informed him Deer Run does not go to Washoe Valley but heads south instead of north, he said he didn’t want any trouble and just wanted to go home.
Deputies took Rowen into company for felony concealment of a weapon without a permit. Inside the vehicle they located at large fixed blade knife with a blade of approximately 12 inches, concealed directly under the driver’s seat with easy access.
They located his wallet in the vehicle and found two identifications belonging to a different person in California and Colorado. Deputies contacted the cities for inquiries, and both returned stating neither city had any contact information regarding the name on the identifications. The IDs were then placed in the DMV return box for proper disposal.
The vehicle was towed and the passenger walked home without issue.
