Carson City GOP Caucus Tuesday underway

Registered Republican voters in Nevada are caucusing this evening for the United States presidential candidates of their choice, and to award delegates toward the party nomination this summer.
According to the Nevada Republican Party web site, Carson City Republican voters wring caucusing tonight at one of two locations in the state capital.
Carson City Chief Deputy Elections Clerk Aubrey Rowlatt said, citing information provided by the Nevada Appeal, that registered Republican voters in precincts 101-211 will caucus at the Carson Nugget at Telegraph and N. Carson Street in the second floor ballroom.
Voters registered with precincts 301-411 will caucus at the Fuji Park Exhibit Hall, 701 Old Clear Creek Road, at the fairgrounds in South Carson City, Rowlatt said.
Caucusing begins at 5 p.m. and runs until 9 p.m., according to the Nevada GOP website. Doors open at 4 p.m.
Voters will need to bring proof of identification in order to participate in the caucus, the Nevada Secretary of State’s Office web site states.
Those new to caucusing can expect a number of housekeeping issues to be dealt with first before voting for presidential candidates, the Secretary of State’s Office web site shows.
A caucus chair and secretary will need to be selected, following by votes on delegates to the spring county convention.
Then local party platform issues will be considered prior to getting to the business of voting for president.
According to the Nevada Secretary of State’s web site, the caucus chair asks one person supporting each presidential candidate to speak on their behalf, expressing why caucus participants should vote for that candidate.
Caucus voters then cast their votes in the Presidential Preference Poll using paper ballots. The results are then read aloud by the caucus chair when all of the ballots have been turned in.
The process of selecting a presidential candidate takes between 30 and 60 minutes, the Nevada Secretary of State’s web site states.
