Carson City IT firm addresses Windows XP support deadline
Most people have heard that Microsoft will be ending support on all Windows XP machines in April. Most people, however, don’t realize what this means and how it will affect them. XP is still a major player in the world of operating systems (OS), and in fact 90 percent of the world’s ATM’s still use XP, not to mention the countless medical practices, small and large business, and of course the home user.
When Microsoft does pull the plug on support, XP will continue to work, but as time progresses will slowly loose functionality. Some may have already had this issue with certain websites and programs. Fortunately Microsoft has announced they they will continue support on Windows Defender which means that those XP Machines will still be able to have some sort of Anti-Virus protection.
As an IT company in Carson City and Minden, we know that many still rely on XP and many others are hesitant to switch in fear of relearning a whole new OS (Windows 8.) Within recent days it has become harder and harder to find a computer with Windows 7, (which in our opinion is Microsoft’s best OS since XP) but not impossible. Recently HP has announced that by popular demand they will be bringing 7 back to their computers, which is good news for end users. This does not solve the problem for users who have a machine with 8 on it, or wish to purchase a non-HP brand computer, or who like their old computer and are concerned about losing support in April.
DeBug would like to offer our services in helping people determine what their best option is, Whether its buying a new pc, upgrading your current pc, or even downgrading your pc (from 8 to 7 for example.) Luckily most new computers can be downgraded to 7 and even some older PC’s can be upgraded. And as a reminder, DeBug is still able to custom built Windows 7 computers according to your specific needs.
If you would like more information on the end of life support for Windows XP or if you want more information on switching to Windows 7 feel free to give one of our offices a call, and our techs will be more than happy to guide you and prepare you for this change, and if you do decide to upgrade, just mention this news release and we will take 20 percent off labor (in office only) to help with the transition.
