Former Carson City manager Linda Ritter nominated for CCCVB interim director position
The Carson City Convention and Visitors Bureau on Monday nominated former Carson City manager Linda Ritter as interim executive director.
Board members meeting unanimously approved Ritter after she had expressed interest in the position. Ritter was nominated by Karen Abowd, board member of the CCCVB and a Carson City Supervisor. Ritter was not at the meeting and hasn't accepted the offer.
If she accepts, Ritter would serve in the interim as the nationwide search continues for a full-time person to take leadership in the visitors bureau operation, vacated by Candace Duncan who retired in December.
The interim position would be for 8 weeks, 30 hours a week at $75 an hour. If the executive director search extends past 8 weeks, it will go to the CCCVB board who will extend the interim director's contract.
Among the job duties for the interim director would be to review and continue all operational policy procedures and assist in organizing screenings for a new executive director. So far about 40 people have applied for the executive director position.
Ritter served as Carson City manager from 2003 to September 2008. She is currently president of Ritter Consulting Associates, Inc.
In other matters, board members:
— Approved a request by Jay Zetz, owner of All World Sports, in the amount of $15,000 for out-of-area advertising to bring sports tournaments to Carson City, as approved by the Events Committee.
— Approved a request for $500 to launch Carson City's first PDGA Disc Golf tournament.
The tournament is expected to bring 450 disc golfers to Carson City for the April 13 tournament. The money would be used primarily for marketing to get disc golfers to sign up and possibly funneled into prize money. It is expected to bring disc golfers from Nevada and California.
Because it is a first time event, there is a possibility that another disc golf tournament could be held in September. The location for the tournament is on 31 acres of public land across from Deer Run Road.
