NRHA expands services, space in Carson City with ribbon cutting
The Nevada Rural Housing Authority (NRHA) officially introduced a new suite addition to its office space — located at 3695 Desatoya Drive in East Carson City — Wednesday with a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house event for the public.
The new office suite space — right next door to the NRHA main office — will be home to the agency's Home At Last program, which helps low income homebuyers make a down payment on a house and also assists them with obtaining affordable mortgage financing.
NRHA's Home At Last homebuyer services has been assisting Nevada real estate consumers since 2006, according to the agency web site. To date, it has helped more than 5,700 homebuyers afford a down payment and supplied more than $1,000,000 in mortgages.
Down payment assistance is achieved through Home At Last Down Payment Assistance grants, which are customized for use with FHA, VA, USDA Rural Development, or Fannie Mae HFA Preferred Conventional Loans, the NRHA web site said.
Mortgage help is provided through NRHA’s Mortgage Credit Certificate program, which awards qualified first-time buyers or qualified veterans with an annual federal income tax credit equal to 20 percent of the interest paid on their mortgage every year for the life of the loan, the NRHA said.
Wednesday's open house and ribbon-cutting event featured appetizers, refreshments and raffle prizes, the proceeds from which benefited Nevada Rural Community Partners, a non-profit arm of the NRHA.
The celebration also included the opening of a new chapter of CPLC Nevada, Inc. — a Nevada-based 501(c)3 non-profit serving the community as the local affiliate of Chicanos Por La Causa, Inc., a community development corporation (CDC) that provides services throughout the southwest — in an office upstairs directly above the NHRA on Desatoya Drive.
The NRHA and CPLC Nevada originally formalized an agreement last summer to collaborate on a community of afford home sites in Dayton. They continue to work together out of Carson City to impact rural Nevada communities by helping low-income residents get into homes.
