February Ideas on Tap to discuss Brain Drain in downtown Carson City
What can we do to attract and retain the best and brightest to remain in Carson City?
That is the subject of the Wednesday, Feb. 6 discussion titled "Brain Drain" at the next "Ideas on Tap," a monthly series of interactive conversations held at the Union Eatery and Taphouse, 302 N. Carson Street in downtown Carson City.
The discussion begins at 6 p.m. and lasts until 7:30 p.m.
Michael Smith, organizer and brainchild behind "Ideas on Tap," is excited about the cross-section of different people and industries to discuss the subject of "Brain Drain."
"This topic should promote a sense of awareness, as we concentrate on retention, connection, training and attraction, not necessarily in that order," Smith said. "For Carson City to flourish, and compete with comparable cities of its size we must have a workforce development that will focus on the aforementioned, including community development, and entrepreneurial startup growth."
Panelists for the Wednesday discussion consist of individuals from city government, Carson City school district, along with marketing and job firms.
"Each panel member represents a different mindset/approach, and angle to the issues, so it will be less about industry representation and more about perspective," Smith said.
Panelists for Feb. 6 include Jonathan Crawford, manager of Nevada Job Connect in Carson City; Dr. Jose Delfin, associate superintendent for the Carson City School District; Bradley Harris, a Carson City-based human resources consultant; and Carson City Deputy City Manager Adriana Fralick.
"Ideas on Tap" is free and open to the public. There will be an opportunity for the audience to ask questions towards the end of the panel discussions.
Smith encourages everyone who can to come out and join in the conversation, and meet new and interesting people.
What a great way to celebrate the first Wednesday of the month (hump day) with a wonderful topic discussions, good people, and enjoy ordering (dutch style) your favorite delicacies and beverages from the Union.
"Ideas on Tap" averages anywhere between 27-40 persons, depending upon the topic of discussion.
