Carson City Sheriff’s Office recent bookings: Man jailed for alleged possession of stolen trailer

A 55-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday for felony suspicion of possession of stolen property after a trailer was reported stolen and located at the landfill, Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Thomas Wayne Camper was taken into custody at 7:12 p.m. in the 5400 block of Arrowhead Drive. He also faces charges of misdemeanor petit larceny and defrauding an innkeeper.

According to the arrest report, a deputy was dispatched to the Carson City landfill regarding a stolen trailer. The reporting party stated his friend noticed his stolen trailer was at the landfill and when he was there he realized it was in fact his stolen trailer. He told landfill employees of the situation.

Deputies met with the victim who stated the trailer in question was his. A deputy confirmed through the VIN which matched his stolen trailer. It was learned that a white Mazda pickup had been towing the trailer and that two men had attempted to steal wood from the area. A landfill employee told the men it was a stolen trailer, according to the arrest report. One of the two men fled into the woods and the driver quickly disconnected the trailer and left the landfill at a high rate of speed.

The man who took off running was found and said he had been a passenger in the pickup. He told officers he only new the driver as Tom and did not know his last name. Upon further investigation it was learned where the man lived. Officers arrived and met with Camper who told them he knew he screwed up and should have paid the dump fee before leaving without being questioned, the arrest report states.

He was read his Miranda rights and admitted to being the driver of the truck. He stated he did not know the trailer was stolen and learned about it only when the landfill employee told him it was stolen. Bail: $25,654.
