Carson City arrests: Man jailed for alleged unlawful firearm possession, warrant
A 45-year-old man was arrested Monday for suspicion of felony being a person prohibited of having a firearm, a misdemeanor failure to appear warrant and other offenses, a Carson City Sheriff's Office report states.
Michael Kash Werfelman, of Sparks, was arrested at 12:36 p.m. in 2700 block of North Carson Street. He was also arrested for suspicion of driving on a suspended license and a tinted window violation.
According to the arrest report, a Carson City Sheriff's Special Enforcement Team officer observed a vehicle pass him in which in the officer could not see a driver or any occupants inside the vehicle because the windows were dark.
The officer made contact with the driver, who said he had purchased the BMW with the tinted windows. A tint meter was used to check the tint of the windows, which showed 2 percent, far below the allowable 28 percent, the report states.
The man provided the officer with his license and registration, which were checked and returned with two failure to appear warrants, with one extraditable out of Nye County. The deputy informed the man his license had been suspended. The officer arrested the man for the extraditable warrant. The officer was then informed there was a gun in the car between the seat. The officer located a handgun wedged between the driver's seat and the center console.
The officer removed the 9 mm handgun, which was loaded with one in the chamber, the arrest report states. The officer ran a criminal history on the man, which showed an arrest for domestic battery out of Las Vegas listed as "guilty at trial" disposition, the report states.
The man also informed deputies that he had a marijuana vape pen inside the vehicle, which was located. Due to the man's prior conviction for domestic battery and the drug use of marijuana, the man was also arrested for suspicion of being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, the arrest report states. Bail amount listed: $20,694.
— A 44-year-old Carson City man was booked into jail Monday, Dec. 30 for a contempt of court warrant issued Nov. 19 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $3,000.
— A 29-year-old Carson City man, Jacob Martin Madden, was booked into jail Monday for a felony warrant out of Washoe County issued Oct. 1, 2019. Bail: $5,000.
