Questions for Maurice White Our Great Constitutionalist (opinion)
There can be no doubt, the Founding Fathers were among the elite of a young nation. At the time many were exceptional and provocative intellectuals by the standard of their era. However brilliant as they were, the Founders were not motivated to be historically recast as secular saints.
Some people choose to run for public office because they feel slighted by their incumbent opponent of local government and seek to stick it to incumbency.
Too many candidates choose to run to enhance their own ego – to be the center of attention – to have people tell them how great they are. The candidates are running to be something – rather than – to do something. The title sounds nice. They think people will respect them more. They will finally have prestige.
These people tend not to genuinely care about governing. The most extreme examples, an individual whose ego is so large she/he believes he/she knows better than everyone else and plans to impose their will on others.
Inevitably, they will quote one of our Founding Fathers to justify their running for office.
And, right here in Carson City, we have Maurice White, a self-proclaimed “constitutionalist” attempting to ride on the coattails of James Madison, who is now seeking, yet again, a position on the Carson City Board of Supervisors.
Please take note: I do not give a tinker’s damn if you are a self-proclaimed liberal or a conservative! Quit using the Founding Fathers to prop up your candidacy by invoking their names. You denigrate and insult their historic, profound and meaningful legacies.
So, I have questions for self-proclaimed “Madisonian/Constitutionalist” Maurice White:
1.What could be expected, as to your advocating and applying your “Madisonian” construct, on the critical issue of building and road maintenance?
2.Present to us your “Madisonian” critique of our present Board of Supervisors and how your election to the Board will enhance and improve the quality of life for the residents of Nevada’s Capital City?
3.Provide and define your “Madisonian” critique as it applies to public safety, i.e., the Sheriff and Fire Departments, respectively.
4.Lastly, explain your “Madisonian/Constitutionalist” critique of the Building and Public Works Department.
If you elect to ignore the above inquiry, Mr. White, my conclusion is your hitchhiking on “Madisonian/Constitutionalist” is nothing more than the masking of your agenda – personal fulfillment.
Carson City deserves and needs better.
