4-H 2017 Summer Youth Day Camp offered in June
Carson City Cooperative Extension is looking for youth interested in the the 4-H 2017 Summer Day Camp. The camp is a week of fun and educational activities designed around exploring Carson City and surrounding areas.
The camp is open to youth ages 9-14, with a limit of 15 participants. It runs from June 26-30, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m through the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, 2621 Northgate Lane #15, Carson City.
The full week is $150 or $35 per day. Price includes snacks/water, lunch for 2 days, transportation, supplies/materials, and entrance fees. (Pick-up and drop-off each day at the Extension Office)

DAILY THEMES
— Monday, June 26 – State Capitol, Governor’s Mansion and the Carson River Watershed
Learn about your Capitol City. There will be a guided tour of the State Capitol in the morning followed by lunch on the Capitol grounds and an exploration of the area. Then off to tour the Governor’s Mansion and the mansion grounds. We return to the Cooperative Extension office for a presentation by the River Wranglers about the Carson River Watershed critters. Snacks and water provided. Bring a sack lunch.
— Tuesday, June 27 – Animal Ark and Rancho San Rafael Park
First thing in the morning we will travel to the Animal Ark in Reno for a tour and some fascinating insights into the care and feeding of rescued wildlife of the Great Basin plus a few critters from other areas. We will lunch on the grounds then travel down to Rancho San Rafael Park where Ranger Marie Fong will educate us about what makes a great regional park. Snacks and water provided. Bring a sack lunch.
**You may want to bring a hat as we will be outside all day.
— Wednesday, June 28 – STEM
Join us for a fun STEM day! STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, but mostly it means fun for those attending the STEM day for the 4-H day camp. Learn about drones, conduct CO2 experiments, build and shoot off rockets and other fun science adventures when you sign up for the STEM day of the 4-H day camp. Snacks, water and a pizza lunch provided.
— Thursday, June 29 – Nevada Museum of Art and UNR’s Black Rock Press
We will learn about artists and their techniques when we travel to Reno to visit the Nevada Museum of Art. Following a tour of the museum exhibits, we will move into the museum studio for a session of printmaking. Lunch will be on the University of Nevada Reno’s grounds then on to the University’s Black Rock Press where we will view and learn about the collection of working antique printing presses. Everyone will get to use one of the presses to make a print to take home. Snacks and water provided. Bring a sack lunch.
— Friday, June 30 – Washoe Lake State Park
We are off to Washoe Lake State Park to join members of the Lahontan Audubon Society for a full day of fun hiking and learning about the birds that live and nest in the area. Binoculars will be provided for an up close view of and identifying some of the many birds that live here. Following lunch we will collect samples of water and view them under microscopes to better understand the nutritional value of this lake for bird life. Snacks and water provided. We will be having a barbequed lunch consisting of hotdogs, chips, fruit, cookies and a drink. Bring a hat as we will be outside all day.
