Carson City Cooperative Extension is looking for youth interested in the the 4-H 2017 Summer Day Camp. The camp is a week of fun and educational activities designed around exploring Carson City and surrounding areas.

Back to school week is just about behind us, so do something to celebrate your survival. Southbound Train hits the outdoor stage at Living the Good Life, followed by hours of dancing with DJ Bobby. Cowboy Bobby will get your boots on the floor with Country Dance Night at Carson Lanes. Take the kids to Minden Park for the final family concert in their GE Series: Foreigner Unauthorized begins at 6 p.m. Shine up the chrome for the Carson SYFL Car Show at Bully’s Sports Bar, and catch some NFL pre-season while you’re there. Happy Thursday, Carson City. Kick the weekend off a little early with some live music on the veranda at Adele’s. Living the Good Life welcomes back Jimmy Mallett to the stage to entertain you. Learn something new at the Nevada State Museum: Rick Martin gives a presentation on Gold Dredges. Kick up your cowboy boots at the Ormsby Club or sing your heart out at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar. Have a great day, Carson City. You can choose from a jazz jam at Living the Good Life or an open mic at the Firkin and Fox. Pick up some yummy stuff for dinner at the McFadden Plaza Farmers Market. Learn about environmentalist John Muir at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park in Minden. Enjoy country line dancing with DJ Bobby G at the Eleventh Frame Lounge in Carson Lanes.

Time to hit the books, Carson City, the new school year begins today. Keep an eye out for kids on bikes and in crosswalks all over town, and please drive safely. Mondays are usually quiet in our valley, but you’ll find the High Sierra Swing Dance Club jazzing it up at El Charro Avita. Head up to Gold Hill for a tour of their haunted hotel and stick around for drinks or dinner. Have some family fun at Carson Lanes: games are only $1 all day.

Friday has arrived and it’s bringing with it a valley full of good times. The sixth annual Hopefest Concert and Fundraiser at Carson Tahoe Hospital kicks off at 5 p.m. Enjoy food trucks, live music with the Waybacks, and more at the free, family friendly event. McFadden Plaza is where you’ll find Jazz and Beyond’s concert with the Jackie Landrum Band, Living the Good Life is serving up a performance by Prey for Son, or take the stage yourself at Carson Lanes’ karaoke. Today’s list is chock-full of options, so keep reading and have a great day.

The weekend is quickly approaching, but don’t rush past the fun that Thursday has to offer. Check out the Jazz and Beyond offerings: Carolyn Dolan with members of the Reno Jazz Orchestra at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall or music with the New World Jazz Project on the Adele’s Veranda. Telegraph Square will be abuzz with art and music as the third Community Art Night takes place: bring something non-perishable for the F.I.S.H. food bank and an appetite for food truck offerings.

McFadden Plaza will be hopping tonight. Not only is there a Farmers Market late Wednesday afternoons, but Josh and Jenera have returned to the Firkin and Fox to host a weekly jam session. You'll find John and Cherie Shipley jazzing it up at Living the Good Life, and Glen Eagles Restaurant welcomes Terri Campillo and Craig Fletcher to their lounge every Wednesday through Saturday night to entertain you.

WEDNESDAY: Jazz and Beyond Music Festival

Happy Tuesday, Carson City. The United States Air Force Band of the Golden West has returned and will be at the Community Center tonight, if you were quick enough to grab free tickets from the Chamber of Commerce. Join the ladies of Muscle Powered for a mountain bike ride through beautiful Ash Canyon. Hear the stories and legends of the Washoe People in their native language with translations into English at the Carson Valley Cultural Center. Continue on for even more to do.

Carson kids have one last week to lay about, while their neighbors in Douglas and Lyon County are headed back to school. Jazz and Beyond continues with some fun times downtown. Me and Bobby McGee will appear in the Comma Courtyard, followed by the Rosebud Dance Band in the McFadden Plaza. Head to the Carson City Library to meet the Heroes of the Carson City Fire Department as part of the ongoing series, ‘What’s up in your community?’ Keep reading for all of Monday’s options.

I hope you like live music, Carson City, because tonight you’ve got plenty of it. No matter what your style, there is someone for you. Take the kids to the Nevada State State Train Museum for Lucky Diamond and the Gents of Jive or to the McFadden Plaza for an outdoor concert with Musicole. Take the kids to the Carson Library for movie night: The Sandlot is fun for all. Sierra Surgery welcomes you to the grand opening of the new Carson Tahoe Breast Center. What a fun Wednesday in store for Carson City. The usual options of Geeks Who Drink Trivia at Westside Pour House, Country Line Dancing at Carson Lanes, and the Farmers Market in McFadden Plaza still apply. Throw in some great music on the veranda at Adele's, a Ukulele Jam at Mormon Station in Genoa, and a Vintage Chevy Meet-up in Virginia City and things get a little more random. Crossroads Lounge is hosting their last Wednesday night karaoke this week; a new night and time will be announced soon. Carson Hot Springs invites all Veterans and Military members to come swim for free today.

Today is a perfect day for the great outdoors. Go explore the Ormsby Fire Road and the Historic Pioneer Cemetery with Carson Parks and Rec. Kids won’t want to miss the Bike Safety Rodeo in Silver City. Enjoy the Mile High Jazz Band this evening in the Comma Coffee Courtyard: special guest vocalists Cindee LeVal, Jakki Ford, and June Joplin make this a ‘don’t miss’ event. Just a few more weeks until the kids head back to school, so get out and enjoy the summer while you can. Jazz and Beyond brings a free outdoor concert to the Minnesota Street Stage at the Brewery Arts Center this evening. It’s the Carson Dreamers tonight, but you can go HERE for all of the upcoming music festival events. The Nevada Arts Council welcomes Justin Favela’s new exhibit to their OXS Gallery with a reception and talk by the artist.

Fifteen days of non-stop music begins tonight at the Bliss Mansion with the Jazz and Beyond Garden Party; don’t miss out on the fabulous art show, tours of the historic home, and great jams. Downtown will be rocking tonight as the Carson High Class of 86 celebrates their reunion in Telegraph Square with two live bands. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun. Just down the street, Living the Good Life welcomes Southbound Train followed by DJ Bobby G. Fuji Park is the place to be for cowboys, broncs, and a great concert celebrating Carson City.

Wine walk weekend is almost upon us, along with the kick-off of the Jazz and Beyond Music Festival featuring more than 100 musicians in over 60 events in just fifteen days. Hot August Nights is heating up and will be stopping at Minden Park for their Poker Run lunch. Sing your heart out during karaoke at Living the Good Life or Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar. Join Muscle Powered on an early morning hike to Secret Harbor or a late afternoon bike ride.

Welcome to Wednesday, Carson City. The week keeps on rolling along and every day brings some new kind of fun. Kick up your heels at Carson Lanes: Country Line dance lessons tonight. Westside Pour House hosts the Geeks Who Drink Pub Quiz each week; it’s a great excuse to grab some friends and fight for bragging rights. The launch party of ‘The Studio’ at the Adams Hub on Proctor Street invites you tour the building, learn about the incubator’s resources, meet some of Carson’s movers and shakers, and enjoy some treats.

The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its exhibition, Print Project, at the Community Development Building [the Brick], 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City. Ten University of Nevada, Reno [UNR] student artists created the art posters in class earlier this summer. The building is open to the public daily, 8am – noon, 1-4pm. The free exhibition will remain in the building’s lobby exhibition space through August 29.

Holy Tuesday, Batman! Today is jam-packed full of options around our valley. A walk with Parks and Rec, a movie viewing with the Classic Cinema Club, and life-sized board games at the Library are all on the docket for today. The big story, of course, is National Night Out with the Carson City Sheriff's Department. Free food, activities, fun, and even an aircraft or two descend on Mills Park for the annual party.

August means many things: Hot August Nights, the Jazz and Beyond Music Festival, the return of football, and the last few weeks of summer vacation. The construction downtown is showing signs of advancement with the recent completion of the Bob McFadden Plaza.

Living in the dusty, dry high desert means that we escape cancerous car rot. Additionally, it’s probably the reason that Northern Nevada is a mecca for classic cars and the shows that celebrate them. The Silver Dollar Classic Car Show has long been Carson’s kick off to the hot, melty August nights that follow – the Max Casino is where it all begins. Head to Red’s Old 395 for an appreciation party to those who fight our wild fires and say a hello to Smokey the Bear. Trey Stone makes an appearance at Living the Good Life and Whiskey Tavern welcomes you to their karaoke stage.

Summer is in full blaze out there. Treat yourself to something cold at Dairy Queen; their Miracle Treat Day donates a dollar per Blizzard to the Miracle Children’s Hospitals. See what the talented kids of Strings in the Schools have been up to this summer at their free concert inside the Carson Mall. ‘Always Lost: A Meditation on War’ is an art exhibit from Western Nevada College that has travelled the country.

Happy Wednesday, Carson City. Enjoy America’s pastime tonight at the Aces Stadium and help raise money for the Carson City Library; just pick up your ticket voucher at Browser’s Corner Book Store. Casino Fandango is airing the 1968 classic, Planet of the Apes, today at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Kick off a weekend full of classic cars with Cruise Night at the Carson Mall with food trucks, kids activities, and more. Westside Pour House is the new home of the weekly ‘Geeks Who Drink’ Pub Quiz, so gather your smartest friends for a fun night of trivia, libations, and good food.

Get thee to a gallery! Carson City has three art exhibits in their last week of viewing: the Spirit of America Show at the Nevada Artist Association Gallery, ‘Vantage Point of Distance’ by Dave Rowe at the Nevada Arts Council’s OXS Gallery, and ‘Always Lost: A Meditation on War’ on display in the Western Nevada College Gallery. This week will also see receptions for two of those exhibits. The Nevada Arts Council welcomes Dave Rowe on Tuesday.

Help Gina celebrate the second anniversary of Living the Good Life with CV-41 on the outdoor stage. The Carson Nugget does date night with comedy and the Cash Only Band. Grab a guitar and join in Comma Coffee’s fourth Friday Jam Session. Enjoy opening night of ‘The Red Velvet Cake War’ at the CVIC Hall in Minden; break a leg, Carson Valley Community Theater. Enjoy ice cream and a concert by the Capital City Community Band at the First United Methodist Church on Musser St. Close out the evening with karaoke at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar.

I'm chomping at the bit for Saturday: the Taste of Downtown is almost here. It is one of my absolute favorite events, and one of the most delicious. Grab your tickets at Classy Seconds Thrift Store or the Purple Avocado. A jazz jam with Tom Stryker at Living the Good Life is a great way to soothe the soul.

I am quite fond of Tuesdays. For a weekday, they usually have some great offerings. Today's Easy Walk with the Parks and Recreation Department takes you along the Moffat Open Space on the east side of town. The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada offers 'Books and Brags', essentially a story with craft time. Have a hot time with the fire-dancers of Controlled Burn: they meet at A to Zen on Tuesdays and welcome newcomers.
