Carson City restaurant health inspection report through June 24

Food and restaurant inspections are made weekly by the Carson City Health and Human Services Environmental Health Division.

Inspections through June 24, 2014 include a caterer, convenience store, bars and lounges, restaurants, fast food restaurants. Out of the 24 inspections, 15 received Grade AA scores of 100.

Virginia City prepares for July 4 with parade, Old West celebration on the boardwalk

Carson City Sheriff's Office crime report

A 65-year-old man was arrested Wednesday on a felony charge of burglary after attempting to take more than $400 in merchandise from Walmart on Market Street in Carson City.

Darrel Wayne Fisher, a homeless man, also faces lessor charges of petit larceny and obstructing, according to a Carson City sheriff's deputy.

Officers were dispatched to the store at around 8:15 p.m. and met with Loss Prevention who observed the man leaving the store through the west door with a shopping basket of merchandise. He was confronted outside the store and taken inside.

Volunteers invited to clean up Lake Tahoe area beaches July 5

The League to Save Lake Tahoe will host its annual Keep Tahoe Red, White and Blue Beach Cleanups at five locations throughout Lake Tahoe on July 5. Volunteers of all ages and abilities are invited to join the effort from Tahoe City to Nevada Beach and South Shore.

California has two Free Fishing Days in 2014 which are close to holidays. The first is Saturday, July 5, aligned with the Independence Day holiday weekend, and the second is Sept. 6, right around the time of Labor Day.

NDOT: Snyder Avenue overpass to open Friday as part of Carson City Freeway work

Month by month progress on the Carson City Freeway continues with the latest installment being the Snyder Avenue overpass, which is set to open Friday afternoon over the southern portion of the Carson City Freeway, the Nevada Department of Transportation announced Thursday.

Since March 2013, Snyder Avenue had been closed between East Roland Street and Dat So la Lee Way, with a detour in place, as the overpass was constructed to take the road over the southern end of the Carson City Freeway.

Fire restrictions begin today in the Lake Tahoe Basin

Fire restrictions go into effect in the Lake Tahoe Basin beginning today, Thursday, June 26. Campfires and charcoal barbecues will be restricted to designated recreation sites, and other fire-related activities will be prohibited until the end of fire season.

“With record drought conditions in the West, agencies in both California and Nevada are anticipating increased fire activity,” said Fire Management Officer, Kit Bailey. “Fire restrictions help reduce the possibility of accidental human caused fires.”

Carson City sheriff's deputies find runaway Minden girl

Carson City sheriff's deputies located a runaway 12-year-old girl from Minden early Thursday morning, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
The girl had run away from her grandparents Minden home on Saturday. She was detained in Carson City and released to Douglas County Juvenile Probation.

Truckee River Cleanup July 12

As part of the University of Nevada, Reno's Summer of Sustainability, they are having a Truckee River Cleanup, Saturday, July 22, 2014, from 8 to 11 a.m., at Rock Park, 1515 Rock Blvd.,in Sparks.

The University's partner in this event, Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful, will be providing the tools and the training.

A few things to note:

1. Water will be provided, but bring a water bottle.
2. Wear long pants and closed-toe shoes.
3. Bring sunscreen and wear a hat.
4. Bring work gloves if you have them.

While the Adams family has owned the property since 1958, talks are underway between the Hop and Mae Adams Foundation and M1 Gaming for a possible ownership transfer, though nothing is yet confirmed.
