Historic V&T Railroad opens season with Mother's Day wild west train ride

This Mother’s Day, give Mom a window seat back in time with a tour of the Wild West aboard the Virginia and Truckee Railroad, Sunday, May 12.

This special edition train ride from Nevada's capital, Carson City, to the 1860s boom-era mining town of Virginia City, will provide Mom with a long stem rose, Old West history, storytelling, shopping and dining in Virginia City to go along with the spectacular scenery.

Firefighters clamp cut gas line at Arrowhead Drive

Carson City firefighters responded this morning to the 2400 block of Arrowhead Drive after a report of a backhoe that cut into a gas service line. Firefighters were called to the area at around 10 a.m. and were able to clamp the line.
Southwest Gas was notified and sending a crew to the scene.
No injuries have been reported.

Nevada Commission on Homeland Security agrees on 10 funding priorities for 2013

Cybersecurity, prevention, community planning, intelligence and public information are among 10 priorities outlined by the Nevada Commission on Homeland Security for future funding, officials announced Friday.
Gov. Brian Sandoval and 16 voting members of the Commission made the recommendations, according to a news release.

Carson City authorities respond to shots fired near South Carson Street apartment complex

Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies responded late Thursday night to a report gunshots fired in the 3300 block of South Carson Street.

The incident was reported at around 11:50 p.m. near the Cherry Creek apartments. No injuries were reported. Officers detained several subject and arrested two, a 19-year-old-man and 20-year-old woman on unrelated charges.

Carson City restaurant and food inspection report

The following food inspection report is made weekly by the Carson City Health and Human Services Environmental Health Division. This report is for the week ending March 28.

This week's inspections include four retail grocery stores, including those with bakeries and meat departments; a drive-thru coffee house; a take out pizza shop; four bar and lounges; several dine-in and fast food restaurants.
