Carson City highlights National Public Health Week with trail signs

In recognizing National Public Health Week, officials in Carson City have designed an innovative approach to getting its message out, turning to the use of signs along a local walkway.

Dubbed "Trail to Good Health" several signs will spout up along a mile-long section of the Carson City Freeway multi-use path from Northridge Drive to College Parkway. The signage will be up through the week of April 1-7 and are designed to message users about public health and ways to improve on it, personally and community wide.

Grand Slam Run

Come out and support the Carson Capitals Baseball Program in their inaugural Grand Slam Run on April 28th at 10 am at El Charro Avitia. This is a 5K and 10K event for the entire family. Registration is $25 Adults prior to April 18 and $30 after and only $15 for kids ages 5-14. There will be race day registration from 8:30-9:30 am for $35. Registration for the race gets you a water bottle and buffet lunch. You can also purchase Lunch tickets for $10 if you aren't able to run.

Rain in the forecast this weekend for Carson City; snow in the high Sierra

It looks to be a soggy holiday Easter weekend for Carson City, and a snowy one in the Sierra above Lake Tahoe.
A weather system will move into the Sierra and Western Nevada beginning tonight and last through Monday, bringing snow to the higher elevations of the Sierra and up to a half-inch of rain for the valleys in Western Nevada, the National Weather Service in Reno reports.

JOIN Carson City Workforce Training Credential Asserts Employees Know Basic Employment Skills

JOIN, Inc. in Carson City recently launched the National Work Readiness Credential and recently had its pilot class of four JOIN clients pass the assessment and receive the credential.

Dog Town Adoption Day!

We'll be at the Carson City PetCo, 911 Topsy Lane, from 11:00 -3:00. We'll have about a dozen of our most adorable dogs available for new homes!

All of our dogs are spayed or neutered, and fully vaccinated. They are available for a $100 donation.

Community invited to ceremony, social Saturday at Mills Park in honor of Vietnam Veterans Day

The Carson City Chapter 388 of the Vietnam Veterans of America will hold a public Vietnam Veterans Day ceremony and social gathering on Saturday at Mills Park beginning at 5 p.m.

The short ceremony will be held at the Vietnam Memorial, located at Carson City's Mills Park in the southeast corner. The park may be accessed from either Saliman Road or Seely Loop, across from Carson High School.

'Women to Women' panel discussion with Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong

This week's guest on "Women to Women with Carol Paz" comes in two parts. Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong met before a panel of local women recently and fielded questions related to law enforcement issues in the area.
