Two jailed in separate Carson City DUI hit and runs
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 03/28/2013 - 1:12pmCarson City sheriff's deputies made two DUI related arrests Wednesday that involved the suspects leaving the scene of accidents. A 33-year-old Carson City man was arrested at 7:27 p.m. in the 1600 block of Brown Street and faces three misdemeanor traffic charges, including DUI and leaving the scene.

As our legislators practice their compassion for homosexual marriage in what the unenlightened refer to as 'profaning our historic religious traditions', they will now consider overturning the laws of nature and biology to gratify the countless progressives who claim to be unfairly labeled by their detractors as deviants and/or Feminists. However, in the words of our President, perhaps we should also address the equally important issue of fairness.

For the first time in its two years on air, the Charter TV program "Women to Women with Carol Paz" will switch gears and allow seven local women to interview Carson City's top law enforcement officer.
Sheriff Ken Furlong answered questions recently, with the first of a two-part program airing tonight, 7 p.m. on Charter Media channels 15 (Carson City, Minden-Gardnerville, Dayton) and Channel 3 (Reno, Sparks, Fernley, South Lake Tahoe and Fallon). The program can also be found Friday morning on Carson Now. The second part of the discussion will air April 4, 7 p.m.

It makes me happy to see the breadth of issues that our reporters have covered — animal cruelty legislation, protests, measures to protect children from human trafficking, and so much more. Their work has been featured in the Reno Gazette-Journal and on our local NPR and PBS affiliate stations — and it’s no wonder why. It’s quality journalism.
Solitary Confinement on Nevada Inmates Could Be Limited

Senate Bill 107 would limit the use of solitary confinement on Nevada inmates, removing the ability to use isolation as a punishment and limiting the amount of time spent in solitary confinement. According to Nevada Department of Corrections information, Nevada has more than 300 inmates in ‘maximum’ custody, which is about two percent of the state’s prison population.
Nevada $529 College Savings Day Contest begins; offers financial reward to 12 students

The Nevada College Savings Board and State Treasurer Kate Marshall have launched the fifth annual Nevada $529 College Savings Day Contest, open to students from kindergarten through the fifth grade.
