Nevada Lt. Gov. Krolicki among 22 lieutenant governors asking President Obama to green-light Keystone Pipeline
Republican Lt. Governor Association Chair Brian Krolicki of Nevada and vice chairman Tate Reeves of Mississippi issued the following statement after sending a letter on behalf of 22 Republican lieutenant governors to President Obama and Secretary Kerry strongly urging approval of the Presidential Permit application on the Keystone XL Pipeline.
"On behalf of 22 Republican lieutenant governors nationwide who have responsibilities for promoting economic development and job creation within their states, we urge that this Administration recognize the over-whelming benefits to the states and their citizens associated with the building of this critical pipeline. We see a tremendous positive economic impact for states directly resulting from the construction of this national strategic asset. Welders, electricians, heavy equipment operators and families in virtually every state in the U.S. will be the recipients of more jobs and bolstered local economies. We are proud to advocate for American energy security and stand solidly with job creators who are championing the Keystone XL Pipeline."
In the letter to the President and Secretary Kerry, the Republican lieutenant governors outlined that the U.S. accounts for 20 percent of world energy consumption and is the world’s largest petroleum consumer. In 2011 the U.S. consumed 18.8 million barrels of oil each day.
The Keystone XL Pipeline Project has been subjected to the most thorough public consultation process of any proposed U.S. pipeline. The pipeline has also been the subject of numerous studies – concluding that the pipeline poses the least impact to the environment and is a highly safe mode for transporting crude oil.
