Partnership Carson City, a local organization that inspires a healthy community by building strong families and successful youth, announces two new team members joining the ranks to support education, collaboration and engagement with residents.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Wednesday, July 22, 2020 that there are 11 new positive cases and 14 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 543, with 396 recoveries and nine deaths, 138 cases remain active.

The Rotary Club of Carson City has announced that The Capital City Brewfest, scheduled for August 29th, will not take place this summer due to the COVID 19 virus.

The annual event, which funds the Rotary Club’s scholarships and youth programs, featured several dozen regional breweries and distilleries. The club has set the date of June 26, 2021 for the next Brewfest.

Heading into the weekend there’s a number of activities around the Carson City region. New safety guidelines for the state of Nevada have been enforced, so please make sure to bring a mask and practice social distancing.

Spacious and picturesque John L. Harvey Field in Carson City, nestled at the base of the Eastern Sierra, has provided a lot more than baseball entertainment to the community since being constructed in 2006.

Sena Loyd, candidate for the Nevada State Assembly, District 40, will be the featured speaker at Monday's virtual Democratic luncheon. She became the official Democratic nominee in June's three-way primary, in which she received 47 percent of the vote.

With support from the Nevada Department of Wildlife Hunter Education Program, Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration Act and Carson City’s Capital Improvement Program, the City recently invested more than $800,000 into its Rifle and Pistol Range.

Statewide partners collaborated to launch Nevada’s first website focused on first responder Crisis Intervention Team training and other behavioral health resources which can be found at nvcit.org.

Partnership Carson City, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office and school resource officers are working together to offer a no-cost, certificate education on Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws.

Nevada is one of four additional states to receive approval from the U.S. Department of Education for its career and technical education plan submitted under the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act.

The AYSO Carson City Youth Soccer Region 140 organization is bringing excitement back to the state capitol.

Registration for the upcoming fall season is open for kids ages 3-18. Early bird registration ends July 15 and can be made online or in-person at Yogurt Beach, located at 3228 N. Carson St. in Carson City. In-person registration will be held Wednesday, July 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, July 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Carson City Kiwanis will host the 7th Annual Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day fundraiser on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Silver Oak Golf Course in Carson City, NV. The net proceeds from the fundraiser will support the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and the Marilyn Elaine Academic Scholarship, awarded annually to local high school graduates.

Salvation Army regional headquarters has announced that Captains Mark and Leslie Cyr of The Salvation Army serving Carson City and Douglas County have been appointed to the Pueblo, Colo., Salvation Army.

The Carson City Host Lions will hold an Installation Dinner on Wednesday, June 24 beginning with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. at the Carson City Plaza Events Center, with dinner following at 6 p.m. Region Chair Adam Hopkins from the Reno Cigar Lions Club will perform the installation ceremony. Plenty of activities around Carson City are returning for all to enjoy throughout the summer. From hiking and biking trails and campgrounds, to several outdoor recreational activities, there are many ways to get outside and enjoy the warm weather.

Youth Theatre Carson City is thrilled to announce our upcoming Virtual Summer Workshop Series, held exclusively online over six weeks, June 16 to July 23, 2020 as part of their YTCC@Home initiative.

Youth Theatre Carson City is bringing local experts, home-grown successes, and industry professionals from New York, Los Angeles, Boston and beyond right into your living room covering topics from acting and singing to theatrical design and songwriting to building relationships and becoming a successful professional in the arts.

The Virtual Meals on Wheels fundraiser hosted by Carson City Kiwanis proved to be a big success.

The event raised $3,855.44, including a $1,000 anonymous donation and a donation from the club itself of $1,000 donation.

Featured speaker at Monday's virtual Democratic luncheon will be James E. "Jim" Wilson, Jr., presiding judge for Department II of the First Judicial District Court, which serves Carson City and Storey Counties. First elected in 2008, Judge Wilson was re-elected unopposed in the 2014 primary and was re-elected again running unopposed in this year's primary.

As part of the ongoing Nevada Humanities Exhibition Series, a new exhibition, Colors of the West: Youth Art from the 2020 National Cowboy Poetry Gathering, opened online on June 4, 2020 at nevadahumanities.org and will be on display as a virtual gallery indefinitely.

Summer is in full swing, and recreational activities around Carson City are starting to return in the near future.

From the Carson City Library’s 2020 Learning Challenge, to archery classes at the Clear Creek Bowman Archery Camp, there are several ways for youth to get outside and enjoy the Silver State.

Sunday, June 28 the Clear Creek Bowmen are hosting the Tim Meigs Memorial 3D Archery Shoot in Carson City.
The shoot will be a 35 3D targets Unmarked Yardage/Two Arrow shoot. Yes you can bring and actually use your range finders.

This Saturday, June 13 is Nevada’s annual Free Fishing Day. That means anglers here in the Silver State can fish without purchasing a fishing license, but only for that day. All other fishing regulations, such as limits and means of take, still apply.

Recreational facilities and services in Carson City are beginning to reopen under new provisions by Governor Sisolak’s Phase 2 directives.

The Multipurpose Athletic Center has reopened and the Carson City Aquatic Facility and Carson City Community Center are gearing towards reopening on Monday, June 8.

For more than 15 years, Lisa Davis served as the DARE officer for Carson City. Her last day is Thursday as she and her husband Bob will be relocating to Oregon. She leaves Carson City with many accomplishments in providing children guidance and away from falling into the trap of alcohol and drugs.

Susie Bongers-Gunkel passed away peacefully the morning of Sunday, May 10, 2020 on Mother’s Day with the love of her family surrounding her after a courageous battle with Glioblastoma (Brain Cancer).
