Today, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak announced that he will be issuing an Emergency Directive lifting restrictions on youth and adult sports and adjusting the COVID-19 statewide guidance on sports.

Conventions, sporting events with live audiences and large church gatherings will be allowed to resume once again after Gov. Steve Sisolak announced that he is raising the limit on public gatherings from 50 to 250 people — and even higher for some of the state’s largest venues.

Earlier this month, members of Sierra Nevada Realtors spent time improving their communities all throughout the region. The annual Realtors Give Back event was special this year because it also included areas outside of Carson City. Members participated in community service as a group in Dayton and gave a generous monetary donation to the Fallon Youth Club and to the Boys and Girls Club of Carson City.

It may be a bit quiet around the high school lately, but this will not stop the CHS Student Council from making their senior year one to remember. Leadership Adviser Ann Britt said, “I am pleased to announce the Corona Virus cannot take the fun out of everything, so we are hosting a Spirit Week, Sept. 25 through Oct. 2, at CHS.”

Partnership Carson City, founded to develop a healthy community, and other partners are educating the community about how to safely dispose of prescription drugs this Saturday, Sept. 26 from 10 a.m. to noon at Smith's Food and Drug Store, located at 599 E William St. Additionally, Partnership will have a collection box for safe disposal of sharps (syringes) and providing free Deterra Bags for safe-at-home disposal and lockboxes for storage.

This week, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office hosted training of school-based officers provided by the National Association of School Resource Officers. The training is viewed as essential certifications for officers working within educational environments and critical to the success of the “triad” concept of policing in school programs.

Carson Capitols Lacrosse Club, a division of Carson Youth Programs, Inc., is proud to announce their upcoming season for boys and girls ages 12-8, which will begin formal training and practices in January 2021, with the season starting in March 2021.

Miles Construction, a diversified northern Nevada general contractor, presented Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada with a $5,000 check in support of the Luau 2020 event and fundraiser, being held virtually this Saturday, Sept. 12.

Partnership Carson City, inspiring a healthy community through education and prevention, is teaming up with the Nevada Coalition for Suicide Prevention and the Nevada Office of Suicide Prevention to remember those lost through suicide for the 14th annual 5K Walk in Memory, Walk for Hope.

Carson City is now accepting Letters of Intent to Apply for our Five-Year, Non-Competitive Community Support Services Grant (CSSG).

Non-profit organizations and government agencies are qualified to fill out the Letter of Intent. Projects or programs must be for Carson City residence.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Public Safety’s Division of Emergency Management, Nevada National Guard and Division of Public and Behavioral Health are partnering to participate in National Preparedness Month to encourage the public to plan for emergencies. United Federal Credit Union is excited to announce a new two-year partnership with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada. As part of the partnership, United donated $4,000 to the Club and has pledged to donate another $4,000 in 2021.

Proscenium Players, Carson City’s longest running theater company is casting for voice actors in the production of an original radio drama “Secrets of Harridge House” with 13 episodes. The premiere broadcast is scheduled for this fall and multiple seasons are planned.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — Lake Tahoe is the vacation destination for millions of people annually, but recent behaviors by some visitors have several residents on edge. Trash is being left behind on beaches, trails and picnic areas, overflowing trash containers, which are shown up daily on social media pages, along with packed stores and clogged roads.

Through a partnership between Carson Capitols Lacrosse and the High Sierra Lacrosse League, a youth clinic will be held on August 29, 9 a.m. at the John L. Harvey Field at Western Nevada College.

The Nevada Governor’s Office of Workforce Innovation officially re-launched LifeWorksNV, the statewide work-based learning hub for student career seekers looking for information and opportunities in registered apprenticeship, internships, career and technical education programs, career exploration and more.

For the second year in a row, The Salvation Army is holding school supply drives at more than 4,500 Walmart locations across the country. In the Carson City, Douglas County and Reno areas, there are 8 Walmart stores participating this Friday through Sunday. Due to COVID-19, the need is greater than ever before. It also means our campaign looks a little different this year.

To accommodate a highly anticipated community mural art project, the Tahoe East Shore Trail will be temporarily closed to public access between the Tunnel Creek Café and Sand Harbor all day on Tuesday, August 4, as well as Wednesday, August 5 through Friday, August 7, after 8:00 p.m.

Bonnie Bulla, who was appointed to Department 3 of the Nevada Court of Appeals by Governor Steve Sisolak in February 2019, and is running to retain that seat in the November general election, will be the featured speaker at Monday's virtual Democratic luncheon. The Brewery Arts Center normally provides the Levitt-Amp concert series throughout the summer, but due to COVID-19 the festivities were cancelled this year.
