Wild Horse Children’s Theater has obtained the rights for the Northern Nevada premiere of Disney’s “Mary Poppins, Jr." Auditions will be held Thursday, August 23 and Saturday, August 25 for actors ages 5-18 at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City.

Bring the kids to McFadden Plaza on Saturday, August 18 from 10a-2p for all the festivities, and have them bring their backpacks, to fill up with all the supplies that they'll earn as they work their way through the activities and learn about local arts opportunities for after-school fun.

Dayton wild horses rounded up Tuesday by BLM, another planned Friday

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management confirmed Thursday that its staff conducted a roundup Tuesday of what the agency determined to be "nuisance" wild horses that had been reported the previous week in the Dayton area and plan to take the rest Friday, Aug. 3.

Douglas County authorities ask for public's help finding vandals who destroyed horse troughs

After horse troughs for the Fish Springs wild horses were destroyed, resulting in $1,400 worth of damage, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's assistance in identifying the people involved in this felony destruction of property.

Reports: Wild horses rounded up in Dayton area

Horse advocates in the Dayton area say there was a Bureau of Land Management roundup that happened Tuesday off of Dayton Valley Road. According to a number of people on the Facebook social media page Dayton Nevada News and Information, the roundup involves several horses the advocates say were put into pens.

GARDNERVILLE, Nev. — The Pine Nut Wild Horse Advocates, a grassroots organization dedicated to protecting local wild horses, was informed Friday by the Interior Department that the Bureau of Land Management will not move forward with the planned massive roundup of wild horses living in and around the Fish Springs area.

Wild horse advocate to be Dems luncheon speaker

Dorothy Nylen from the Wild Horse Preservation League will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon. She will review strategies advocated by the League for keeping wild horses free from slaughter and eventual extinction, and will explain what members of the public can do to help advance those goals. The group hopes to avoid having all of Nevada's wild horses confined to a limited number of sanctuaries.

Wild horse advocates hold candlelight vigil at State Capitol

A crowd of more than 100 people gathered Saturday evening along North Carson Street in front of the Nevada State Capitol, holding a candlelight vigil for an estimated 3,000 Virginia Range wild horses currently under state of Nevada jurisdiction.

Local citizens will gather Saturday afternoon for a candlelight vigil calling on Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval to reverse the Nevada Department of Agriculture’s cancellation of the humane management cooperative agreements and current plan to sell the estimated 3,000 Virginia Range wild horses who fall under the state of Nevada’s jurisdiction to a private entity, according to a press release from local wild horse advocacy groups.

Wild horse advocates urge Nevada governor, land managers to reverse transfer plan

Wild horse advocates upset by Nevada Board of Agriculture decisions late last year that ended an agreement with the American Wild Horse Campaign and then agreeing to transfer ownership of all Virginia Range horses to a yet-to-be-named nonprofit animal organization say they plan to demonstrate Wednesday and hold a candlelight event Saturday at the capitol building in Carson City.
