Start the day at Applebee’s for a Flapjack Fundraiser to benefit the Eagle Valley Middle School Robotics Team. TOCCATA kicks off its 12th season of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion; enjoy free admittance to today’s dress rehearsal at Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church. Wild Horse Children’s Theater finishes up its spring production of ‘Annie, Jr: The Musical,’ so don’t miss your chance to catch these talented kids on stage. Muscle Powered will be out and about for their monthly Trash Mob and invite you to help clean up a little corner of our valley. The Annual Polar Plunge at Zephyr Cove is a brave way to help the Special Olympics raise money, and the costumes get wilder every year. Keep reading and enjoy the weather before the clouds return.

Friday, March 17: Things to do on St. Patrick’s Day

You won’t have to look far for some green beer, whiskey, or corned beef – there will be St. Patrick’s Day parties all over. Live music is on the menu, as well. Choose from Men of Worth at the Brewery Arts Center, an all ages punk show at Sassafras, or Stereo Galaxy in the McFadden Plaza, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The brave ones will be at the St. Baldrick Fundraiser at Red’s Old 395 where you’ll see some heads shaved for a good cause. Where ever you end up, just make sure you have a plan to get home safely.

Auditions will be on Thursday, March 30 and Saturday, April 1 at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W King Street in Carson City. Callbacks are Saturday, April 1st , after auditions, and performances are weekends June 9-18. Auditions are by appointment only! You must call for an audition slot.

Welcome to the wrestlers and swimmers who are in town for their respective tournaments: you’ll find other fun things on this list to occupy your downtime. It’s a St. Patty’s celebration in Virginia City this weekend with the parade, Rocky Mountain Oyster Fest, and Ball Buster Saloon Crawl. Bragging rights are on the line at the Sixth Annual Thirsty Boy Homebrew Competition sponsored by Just Brew It. You’ll get a sneak peek at the soon-to-open Shoe Tree Brewery if you attend the award ceremony.

Kids are welcome to make a free craft or decorate a St. Patrick’s Day Cookie at Genoa Candy and Coffee. Go on an ‘American Road Trip’ at the Plaza Hotel as part of their Mike Thompson Lecture Series. Based on the Broadway favorite and well-known comic strip, “Annie, Jr.” recounts the adventures of a spunky Depression era orphan (Annie) determined to find her parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City orphanage, run by the sinister Miss Hannifin.

Nevada Ag Department: Band of 16 wild horses in Carson City to be vaccinated and relocated
Submitted by editor on Tue, 02/07/2017 - 2:51pmOn Monday, Feb. 6, the Nevada Department of Agriculture gathered 16 feral horses that were wandering in east Carson City for about three weeks. The horses will be vaccinated with fertility control drugs, as part of an agreement between the NDA and the American Wild Horse Preservation Campaign and then relocated to an area south of Highway 50 near Stagecoach.

I feel compelled to include the disclaimer that all of the following events are subject to change: this storm has the potential to wreak some havoc, so stay safe out there. Kids with cabin fever will enjoy story time at the Carson Library. Adults, get out of the house and enjoy some live music at Living the Good Life or Sassafras. Local McDonald’s restaurants hope to see you this evening: a fundraiser for the family of Ashley Bursey runs from 4 p.m.

Business Spotlight: Wild Horse Gallery expands to Carson City

"I had everything stacked up in the hallway where they could look through it," she said. "But most people don't look through it."
Most of the prints she carried were stacked on the floor because there wasn't the wall space to display them all.

The national business movement Independent We Stand has declared Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery in Carson City among the quarter finalists for the 2016 Independent We Stand Small Business of the Year Award.
