Last day to catch a ride on Executive Sweet B-25 Bomber in Carson City

Today is the last day to catch a ride on a World War II-era B-25 at Carson City Airport, beginning at 9 a.m. The historic B-25 “Mitchell” named “Executive Sweet” will be parked in front of the airport’s terminal building and rides are available.

Courses announced for inaugural Epic Rides, Carson City Off-Road mountain bike event

Organizers of Carson City's first Epic Rides Off-Road mountain bike event in June unveiled its event course Tuesday through a video and a series of maps. The event, June 17-19, will gives riders three distance options: beginner, weekend warrior and pro level.

The riding courses were picked in cooperation with Visit Carson City, the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest and Nevada State Parks.

Rockabilly car show coming to Carson City in June

More than 550 rat rod cars are expected for Rockabilly Riot’s debut event in Carson City this June, tourism officials confirmed Tuesday.

Volunteers in Carson City's first Trash Mob set out to tidy up the town

Volunteers participated in Carson City's first Trash Mob bright and early Saturday morning, setting their sights and trash bags on the south side of College Parkway near the I-580 overpass.

Volunteer Randy Gaa said he noticed the trash along the multi-use path and wanted to do something about it. As a member of Muscle Powered, a community group that advocates bicycling and pedestrian friendly development, he brought up his concerns to Donna Inversin, Muscle Powered's president.

Trash Mobs Help Clean Up Carson City

Muscle Powered, the organization for a walkable and bikeable Carson City, is sponsoring a new initiative in the community in order to keep the local walking and biking paths clear of trash. Once a month, the local community will be invited to participate in a “Trash Mob.”

“We had 600 people in the parking lot we had to turn away last year,” said promoter and livestock provider Manuel Souza. “We had little kids crying because we had no place to put them. It was terrible.”

In recognition of National Public Health Week, Carson City Health and Human Services is encouraging people to get out and walk.

“We really want to educate people about safe walking practices and encourage them to take part in this healthy activity,” said Cortney Bloomer, health educator for Carson City Health and Human Services. “I’m excited about it.”

Jason Brown spent a recent afternoon shopping at Rocking and Rolling in downtown Carson City. He bought an old-spoon necklace and some blue-lace agate and smoky quartz for his children’s rock collection. “She has all the cool ones, and she polishes them herself,” he said.

Keepsake bell to ring in Nevada Sesquicentennial

Nevadans can ring in the state’s Sesquicentennial with the limited-edition Collectabell, available now at the Carson City Visitors Bureau. The pewter bell features the NV 150 Sesquicentennial logo on one side and the Battle Born logo on the other.

The first bell went to Gov. Brian Sandoval, the second to Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki. The 150th bell — in honor of the state’s 150th birthday — will be raffled off over Nevada Day weekend.

It’s Always Something Eventful in Carson City

About a year ago, a few of us participated in the making of a promotional video for Carson City. Our segment was to promote our city’s recreational trails, so Ash Canyon was selected for the location. For about an hour, we all pedaled up and down the dirt road, and back and forth on the trails. Nearly two seconds of the footage made it to the final cut.

Oregon students "Pay It Forward" in Carson City

CARSON CITY — It’s not a typical summer road trip filled with beach visits and tourist traps. Instead it’s a community service road trip filled with good deeds.

Twenty‐two students from Portland, Oregon area High Schools will visit Carson City as part of a community service road trip called the Pay It Forward (PIF) Tour. The tour allows students the opportunity to serve, lead and learn. In just five days, these students will travel to and serve in four different communities; Carson City is their last stop.
