Oregon students "Pay It Forward" in Carson City
CARSON CITY — It’s not a typical summer road trip filled with beach visits and tourist traps. Instead it’s a community service road trip filled with good deeds.
Twenty‐two students from Portland, Oregon area High Schools will visit Carson City as part of a community service road trip called the Pay It Forward (PIF) Tour. The tour allows students the opportunity to serve, lead and learn. In just five days, these students will travel to and serve in four different communities; Carson City is their last stop.
The students will work with the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department to help along the Carson River to protect cottonwood trees from beavers, and removing invasive weeds. Volunteers assist with various maintenance projects at the Carson City Community Center Theater.
“I’m excited the students are able to serve with the Parks and Recreation Department. Carson City has been so welcoming and helpful, and the students cannot wait to volunteer,” said Danny Walter, Manager of High School Programs with Students Today Leaders Forever, “I’m also looking forward to the excitement for service that the students will bring back to their home communities.”
The PIF Tour is organized and planned by college students who are part of Students Today Leaders Forever (STLF). The tour is a great opportunity for high school students and college students to interact and build positive relationships.
