Firefighters representing agencies throughout the Silver State paid their respects to the fallen at the Nevada Firefighters Memorial in Carson City's Mills Park Saturday morning, adding two more names to plaques adorning the walls of the memorial.

The thunderous roar of jet engines will rumble across the skies above Carson City and the Carson Valley this weekend as the famed U.S. Navy Blue Angels flight team headlines the 2018 Aviation Roundup at the Minden-Tahoe Airport.

Live band New Wave Crave is performing a free 80s tribute show at the Carson Nugget, 507 N. Carson Street in Carson City, Friday and Saturday nights from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Ages 21 and older only.

The concert will take place Saturday, October 13 in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, located at 851 E. Williams Street.

Welcome All Veterans Everywhere Inc. (WAVE) is eager to have the public attend the dedication ceremony for the new Veterans Appreciation Monument Oct 6 at noon. The monument honors the service and sacrifice of living and deceased veterans in Douglas County. It has been erected in front of the old courthouse on Eighth St. in Minden. WAVE has been working for over a year with county commissioners, local businesses and a host of volunteers to create the monument.

A limited-edition silver medallion honoring the 125th birthday of The Nevada Sagebrush, the student newspaper of the University of Nevada, Reno, will be minted on the state’s most historic coin press in Carson City.

Time for some Sunday holiday adventure. The Carson Nugget has something special tonight, a Van Halen Tribute Band plays two concerts in their upstairs ballroom. For a lazy afternoon in the shade, you’ll find live music on the porch of the Genoa Bar. The Tahoe Orchestra brings their annual 9/11 Memorial Concert to St. Gall’s Church in Gardnerville. The Carson Nugget presents Hot For Teacher, a Van Halen Tribute Sept. 2 at 7 and 9 p.m. Tickets can purchased at ccnugget.com or at the Winners Club inside the Carson Nugget located at 507 N Carson Street, Carson City.

Hot for Teacher features four explosive performers that are not only among the most talented musicians on the West Coast, but are also dedicated scholars of the Van Halen musical legacy.

According to the calendar, summer is coming to a close but South Lake Tahoe is refusing to acknowledge it. Breakfast fans will rejoice, the popular Squeeze In restaurant known in Reno and Truckee, as well as locations now in California, will be coming to Carson City inside the new downtown development being built for retail and residential spaces on Curry Street.

CARSON CITY — The Pony Express may have had a short life as a mail service in the mid-1800s, but its spirit has long resonated in Nevada.

The Trippin King Snakes take the stage in McFadden Plaza for a free all-ages show. Break a leg to the kids of Youth Theater Carson City; they open their production of ‘Bye, Bye, Birdie’ at the Community Center this evening.

In a return engagement, Sacramento area band, Todd Morgan and the Emblems, will bring 50s, 60s and Rockabilly style music to Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, July 26.

CARSON CITY — TravelNevada debuts five summer experiences in five Nevada territories, encouraging travelers to follow ancient Basque pilgrimages, traverse ghosts towns, explore alpine lakes and rock formations, practice mindfulness and view meteor showers from one of the last remaining dark skies.

Mother Nature brought the heat Saturday to open the annual High Sierra and Nevada Capitol Regional Chili Cook Off held at Glen Eagles Restaurant in Carson City.

But chili flavors stole the show, which raises money to send veterans back East to Washington, D.C., on an all-expenses-paid trip that also pays tribute to their military service.

Exhibits, entertainment and contests will be key features of the 2018 Carson City Fair, scheduled to open Wednesday, July 25 and run through Sunday, July 29 at Fuji Park Fairgrounds in Carson City.

You’ll find downtown road-closures to make way for the race routes, a bike expo, beer garden, and a music festival on Saturday. CARSON CITY — This weekend’s Stewart Indian School Father’s Day Powwow is not only a tribute to generations of Native American customs and traditions, it’s also a glimpse into the future of the Stewart facility.

Carson High School graduated about 465 seniors Saturday at its Carson City football stadium.

Under sunny skies and windy conditions with C-Hill serving as a backdrop, members of the CHS Class of 2018 in words and on their mortarboards, praised their parents, families and teachers for believing in them.
