On Wednesday, the Nevada Health Response Center (NHRC) released the COVID-19 Risk Mitigation Initiative listing of essential services and sectors and non-essential services and sectors. The release includes social distancing measure.

Winter Weather Advisory through Tuesday morning, light snow could affect morning commute

Some light snow accumulation is possible along the valley floors later Monday evening through Tuesday morning, prompting a Winter Weather Advisory for the Reno, Virginia City, Carson City and Carson Valley areas. The greater Lake Tahoe area is also under a winter weather advisory with 6 to 12 inches of snow possible above 7,000 feet.

Carson City area weather: Storm slams Sierra, more on the way including valley rain and snow

A winter storm will continue to push through the region Sunday into Monday, bringing several feet of snow to the Sierra with rain and a few inches of snow around Carson City and the valley floors.

Carson City School District suspends all extra-curricular activities, large group gatherings until further notice

The Carson City School District issued statements in English and Spanish Friday afternoon alerting the community to the suspension of all after-school activities, assemblies, concerts, practices, and general large-group gathering in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Fire and Snow Warnings highlight Carson City weather through the weekend, which feels right given the state of things

In typical Nevada fashion, there are weather advisories for both fire and snow on the horizon, really cementing in the apocalyptic mood of our current times.

There is a fire weather watch in effect from 2 p.m. Friday through Saturday afternoon due to strong winds and low humidity for all of Western Nevada.

Southwest winds increase today ahead of the oncoming storm hailing from the pacific. Strong gusty winds continue into Saturday with some lower humidity during the day on Friday.

Winds will weaken some for Sunday, but should remain gusty.

Nevada governor declares state of emergency over COVID-19 outbreak

Gov. Steve Sisolak declared a state of emergency in Nevada on Thursday afternoon, a ramping up of emergency response efforts amid the spread of the novel coronavirus in the state and throughout the nation.

Carson City health officials report presumptive positive case of coronavirus

UPDATE 4:06PM: Carson City Health and Human Services (CCHHS) held a press conference Thursday afternoon regarding the first reported presumptive positive case of COVID-19, which is this first reported case in Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties.

The patient is a woman in her 70s who recently traveled out of the state to San Jose and returned on March 2. She flew on an airplane into Reno-Tahoe International Airport while she was asymptomatic. The plane or airline she traveled with was not disclosed during the conference.

Health officials outline conditions for safe and secure return of Nevada cruise ship passengers

On Sunday, March 8, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) contacted states, including Nevada, with notification that 21 passengers aboard the Grand Princess cruise ship tested positive for novel coronavirus (COVID-19). This ship had been floating off the California coast since Thursday when those 21 passengers tested positive. We have received confirmation from federal authorities that the 49 passengers from Nevada are asymptomatic.

CARSON CITY — Megg Mueller, Nevada Magazine’s managing editor, will step into the new role of executive editor this month. She assumed leadership of the publication after the March 6 retirement of publisher Janet Geary, who ran the magazine for the past 12 years. Carson City area weather: Hit and miss systems, colder storm possible by weekend

Carson City to break ground Feb. 29 on South Carson Complete Streets Project

The community is invited to celebrate the expansion of the Carson Street improvements at the South Carson Complete Streets Project groundbreaking ceremony.
