CARSON CITY, NV – Finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) show initial claims for unemployment insurance totaled 21,635 for the week ending May 9, down 6,915 claims, or 24.2 percent compared to last week’s total of 28,550.

The Carson City Seventh-day Adventist Church Food Pantry is open to the community for drive-through pick up on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Tuesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Please stop by if you are in need of food. No special paperwork is required (we will complete an intake form at your car if you are a new client), and you may come by even if you have used other food pantries in town. Limited supplies of diapers and baby formula are also available.

In response to Governor Sisolak’s Directive 016, relaxing restrictions on some outdoor recreation activities is allowed starting today, if participants recreate safely and in a manner that prevents the spread of COVID-19.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation will open a new Unemployment Insurance call center Wednesday, April 15, 2020 to help assist claimants with general questions related to the unemployment insurance filing process.

Gov. Steve Sisolak says that he has ordered Nevada’s unemployment insurance agency to pay out claims retroactively — to as early as March 15 — as claimants struggle to get through in a system overwhelmed by unprecedented job losses.

Our Postal Annex location is providing Free Copying, Scanning, and Faxing of COV ID-19 related Financial Assistance Documents effective immediately. Some governmental agencies still want items faxed and others want them scanned and attachment on an email.

Happy Saturday Carson City, and happy first Wine Walk of 2020 in our capital city! We have a bunch of great events going on this weekend, so look below to check them out!

Heading into the first weekend of 2020, there are several activities around the Carson City region lined over the next three days. Events include the Winter Round Up Run at Centennial Park, the Carson City Library 2020 Winter Reading Challenge, plus you can take a post-New Year's stroll while the weather is nice during Saturday's Downtown Carson City Wine Walk. The spirit of Christmas is in the air as we head into the final stretch of the work week. Thursday events around the capital city feature an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered, a Carson City tradition with the return of Joyful Noise Holiday Community Show at the Brewery Arts Center and more.

Events around the capital city Monday include a free yoga class offered through Partnership Carson City, the first day kickoff of a Holiday Gift Making Camp at the Brewery Arts Center, a Carson River Trails Project open house hosted by Parks, Recreation and Open Space, a Carson City Democratic luncheon featuring a Bernie Sanders campaign presentation, West Coast swing dancing at Carson Lanes and more.

With activities lining up around the capital city through the weekend, Thursday events around the region include a meeting of the Healthy Communities Coalition in Silver Springs, an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered, and a Carson City CASA volunteer information hour and training seminar.
