The Carson River Watershed “Get on the Bus” Tour will cover a variety of watershed topics and locations from the headwaters in Alpine County, Calif., to a tour of the Lahontan Dam and Gate House near Fallon.

All hikes are 2-4 miles with duration of about 90 minutes, sometimes with elevation gains of 500' or more. Hike duration does not include time to carpool. Volunteers turn out for cottonwood wrapping at Carson City's East Silver Saddle Ranch

Our department wants to extend our heartfelt appreciation to our small but mighty group of 4 who attended Saturday's cottonwood wrapping. We successfully wrapped 25 trees in about a 90 minute time span.

East Silver Saddle Ranch Cottonwood Wrapping
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 09/12/2018 - 8:16amSeptember 22nd is the first day of fall and National Public Lands Day. To celebrate both of these events, we are hosting a cottonwood wrapping event at East Silver Saddle Ranch!
Our amazing staff will be providing a lesson on river ecology and talk about the importance of cottonwood wrapping.
We will be providing gloves and all the materials and information necessary to correctly wrap cottonwoods.
The event will be held from 9 AM- 12 PM. We are looking for 30 volunteers. If you are interested please email the Volunteer Coordinator- Chelsea Kincheloe at ckincheloe@carson.org

Don’t worry, you’ve still got four months for your holiday shopping, but Santa needs to hire a few helpers. The annual Polar Express on the V & T is getting ready to steam up and they are auditioning for elves etc. to lend a hand. The Nevada Arts Council has a new exhibit featuring Basque artwork; attend this evening’s artist reception to learn more about these unusual carvings. The ESL at Home program works quietly behind the scenes to bring better English language skills to non-native speakers.

Grab summer with both hands and go enjoy this beautiful city. The Brewery Arts Center brings Dennis Johnson and the Mississippi Ramblers to the stage for tonight’s free concert. Check out the Railroad Museum for your fill of music and antique motor cars. Car lovers have two shows to choose from today: spectators will be able to enjoy both, but you’ll have to pick one if you want to enter your ride. Keep reading for more summertime fun.

Take a stroll with Muscle Powered: today’s hike will wind through the far east side of Carson, from Silver Saddle Ranch to Mexican Dam. Artsy Fartsy Art Galley hosts an artist meet and greet for Catherine King; enjoy a glass of wine while discovering her newest work. Head down the rabbit hole, and you may wind up on McFadden Plaza. The Carson City Classic Cinema Club brings the recent live-action version of Alice in Wonderland to the big screen on the downtown stage.

Downtown has a full day of options, but the back roads may be a little more difficult to navigate due to construction projects. The great music that awaits will be worth the hassle. Read on and you’ll find indoors and outdoors activities that will help alleviate the cabin fever.

Hat, sunscreen and hiking poles recommended. Some trails are dirt and others are paved. In case of bad weather, we will cancel.
Hear a Smokin' band tonight in Carson City, but not in all that smoke
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Mon, 08/06/2018 - 3:15pmDue to heavy smoke settling on the area, the RoseBud's Dance Band's performance for Monday, Aug. 6, as part of the Carson City Jazz and Beyond Music and Art Festival has been moved to inside the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King St. The concert was originally planned for Comma Courtyard, but the performers want to present the event in a comfortable and healthy atmosphere.

I Love Carson City’s Weekend Event Summary: July 21 - 22
Submitted by Danielle Cook on Fri, 07/20/2018 - 5:33pmI have long found it impossible to decide which Carson City event is my favorite: forever waffling between Nevada Day and the Taste of Downtown. Seeing as the annual parade is still months away, I’m going to side with ‘The Taste’ purely for its timeliness. With over forty local eateries participating, multiple raffles at downtown shops, and seven bands rocking every corner of the event, it’s practically impossible to have a bad time. This might be the biggest happening in town, but it’s by no means the only good time: read on for all this weekend’s options.

NV Energy says recent rash of Carson City area power outages not connected, caused by various factors
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 07/18/2018 - 2:10pmUpdate: According to NV Energy, the Silver Saddle Ranch downed line was caused by an equipment failure, which caused the line to fall. The Damonte Ranch power outage was caused by a bird. There is still no information about the cause of Wednesday morning's outage.
In recent weeks, power outages and downed lines have consistently popped up more and more throughout Carson City, Lyon County, Reno and Sparks. However, NV Energy said none of the outages are connected.

Power outage hits east Carson City area Thursday
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 07/12/2018 - 5:33pmA power outage Thursday is affecting NV Energy area customers in the Buzzys Ranch Road area in East Carson City and may be tied to downed power lines from a fire earlier near the Silver Saddle Ranch.
The utility is reporting at least 181 customers are without power in the Buzzys Ranch Road area and in the Carson River Road area.
NV Energy says power should be restored by 6:30 p.m.
