Muscle Powered Thursday Morning Hike at Silver Saddle Ranch

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region to help the next three days breeze by, including the Jazz and Beyond Music Festival, Carson City Library’s End of Summer Learning Challenge, history talks at Mormon Station Park, train rides in Virginia City, a sushi cooking class at Sierra Chef on Sunday and more!

Brush fire at Silver Saddle Ranch in southeast Carson City causes power outage

UPDATE 10:36PM: NV Energy reports more than 1,550 customers were without power late Monday night throughout south Carson City. The utility says via its website that it should have power restored in most areas by 11:30 p.m. The brush fire at Silver Saddle Ranch has been extinguished.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Monday night to a brush fire in the Silver Saddle Ranch area in southeast Carson City.

Carson City seeks input with Prison Hill Recreation Area master plan survey

The Prison Hill Recreation Area is located in east Carson City, adjacent to Silver Saddle Ranch. As part of an effort to plan appropriate land uses and trail system connectivity on these 2,500 acres, the City would like the community’s input in developing a Master Plan for this area.

Carson City University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, in partnership with Carson City Parks and Recreation and Friends of Silver Saddle Ranch, is offering two weekly sessions at Silver Saddle Ranch, 2648 Carson City Road in Carson City, for youth who are not able to keep or raise a small farm animal to experience working with either rabbits or goats. Area 4-H leaders will bring their animals for attendees, 9 – 14 years of age, to work with in these hands on day camps.

Cool, showery weather, with periods of steadier precipitation, will continue into the Memorial Day weekend. However, snow levels are forecast to rise above 7,500 feet from Wednesday evening onward for diminishing snowfall impacts in the Sierra, according to the National Weather Service.
