The new parking area at East Silver Saddle Ranch on Sierra Vista Lane in Carson City is in and it is looking good. This Saturday will be a chance for Trash Mob volunteers to clean up the area and make it attractive to families.

This first weekend of June packs quite a punch: activities and events abound. Head downtown for the first Third and Curry Farmers Market of the season, then wander a few blocks north for Due Sorella’s Spring Vintage Market. You may as well just keep the car parked. With the monthly Wine Walk, Pour for Paws in McFadden Plaza, and Crystal’s Crusade Street Party Fundraiser on W. Telegraph, downtown is the place to be. There are so many options this weekend, so take a gander and enjoy your weekend.

SATURDAY:  

Today is definitely an out-doorsy kind of day: two Muscle Powered hikes, the Ladies Ash Canyon Bike Ride, and the annual Bike Month Full Moon Night Mountain Bike Ride. Early voting for the 2018 Primary has begun, and all registered Carson City voters can head down to the Clerks office in the Courthouse to cast their ballot. If you’re in Minden, or up for a short drive, check out the Farmers Market on Esmerelda Street. It runs from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., so you’ll have plenty of time to grab something fresh to throw in with dinner.

It’s going to be a chili weekend, and that has nothing to do with the weather. The annual Chili on the Comstock Competition takes over the tiny town of Virginia City, including a saloon crawl Saturday and the hilarious ‘Fun with the Runs’ 5K. Families will have a hard time choosing between the Cops and Kids Open House and Safety Fair at the Sheriff’s Office and the ‘Kids to Parks’ Day activities at Silver Saddle Ranch. Spring has finally arrived and it's that wonderful time again for the annual Silver Saddle Ranch Open House. Located in southeast Carson City off of Carson River Road, the working ranch encompasses 703 acres that run along the east and west bank of the Carson River.

The Senior Center recently hosted ‘Carson’s Got Talent,’ so they know the caliber of performers hidden in our midst. Auditions for their annual show, Senior Follies, continue this evening and are open to all ages. CCAI’s art exhibit in the Community Development Building on E. Proctor features work from several high school artists. Join them in celebrating this young talent at a reception tonight. The day should be gorgeous; a hike with Muscle Powered is the perfect way to embrace the spring.

Mile High Jazz Band Association and Carson City present the 15th Annual Jazz and Beyond Music and Art Festival. It features 17 days of Music, Art, and Film at multiple venues in Carson City, from Aug. 3-19.

What better way to celebrate Earth Day and Earth Week than gorgeous weather that you just can’t help but enjoy. Join Muscle Powered and our Parks and Recreation Department at the Silver Saddle Ranch for a presentation and trash mob. Kids will love the Carnival at Bordewich Elementary School, and it helps raise funds for a local Cub Scout Pack. Mark Twain Elementary is hosting their annual Color Run at Mills Park, just make sure to wear a white shirt.

Tuesday Hikes Program is evening hikes of 4-6 miles in length with an elevation gain, sometimes over 500 feet and usually on single track trail. Water and sturdy boots or athletic shoes required. Hiking poles, hat, and sunscreen recommended.

Ease into the new year with something fun. Trivia junkies have two options for showing off their smarts: DJ Trivia at the Fox Brewpub and the Geeks Who Drink Pub Quiz at Sassafras are both free to play and open to all ages. Muscle Powered offers two trail hikes on Tuesday. Today take an easy walk along the Mexican Ditch area in the morning, or opt for something more strenuous along the Linear Ditch this evening. Songwriter Canyon White leads a jam at Living the Good Life: strum along or just sit back and enjoy the music.

It’s finally here, the last weekend of 2017. It’s fairly quiet around town, until Sunday night, that is. Today, Muscle Powered is leading a five-mile half-day hike along Prison Hill. Take advantage of the unseasonably warm weather, and join them. The Carson Nugget is hosting three nights of comedy this weekend: catch Myles Weber on the stage tonight. Head’s up. Galaxy Theater usually plays a movie from the past on Sundays and Wednesdays. This week, we get treated to the Christmas Classic, Die Hard. You won’t want to miss that.

Join Muscle Powered on these leader-led walks, hikes or bike rides for January 2018! Explore the many walking paths and trails around Carson City as well as learn some local history associated with many of the places we go.

Come and join us for our weekly one hour walks to enjoy Nevada outdoors around Carson City! Meet at 9:00 am near the red barns at Silver Saddle Ranch on Carson River Road.

All walks are 1 to 2 miles with duration of 1 hour with usually negligible elevation gain, and frequently on paved or smooth paths. Water and closed-toe shoes required. Wrap up 2017 with this great hike! Prison Hill half-day hike is approximately 5.1 miles. Hike begins at the entrance to Silver Saddle Ranch at Carson River Road and ends at 5th St/Carson River Road intersection. Vehicles will be staged at 5th Street and Carson River Road for return to cars.

Downtown will be hopping with the Farmers Market, monthly Wine Walk, and this season’s last outdoor concert at the Brewery Arts Center – and that’s just Saturday! Meet at the Red Barns off Carson River Road. Flat dirt trail about 3.5 miles roundtrip. Closed-toed shoes and water are required. Bring a friend and/or friendly dogs. Hats, sunscreen and walking sticks recommended.
