Initial unemployment claims in Nevada decline over the week; extended benefits see increase
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 12/31/2020 - 11:00amCARSON CITY — According to finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation, initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) totaled 7,209 for the week ending December 26, down 589 claims, or 7.6%, compared to the previous week’s total of 7,798 claims.

This event is counting all birds with a 15 mile diameter circle covering the area contained approximately by the Carson River on the north, the Pine Nut foothills on the East, Bodie Flats on the South and Foothill Road on the West.

This brings the total number of cases to 8,755, with 4,169 recoveries and 106 deaths; 4,480 cases remain active.

DETR: Rescheduled updates to Unemployment Insurance website to debut new look and improved navigation on claimant and employer login screens
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Sat, 12/26/2020 - 12:00pmThe Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) announced that in order to conduct regular system updates, they are temporarily taking the Unemployment Insurance (UI) website, ui.nv.gov offline on Saturday, December 26th from 6 AM to midnight, a period of lower traffic. During this time, individuals will not be able to file claims or access the resource materials.
Carson City area weather: Sierra snow into Saturday, followed by colder storm Monday

How to recycle your Christmas Tree in Carson City and beyond

As in previous years, Christmas trees can be placed curbside on your regular trash collection day or taken to one of the drop off locations. Trees will be chipped in the springtime and used as mulch. This program continues to be a huge success.
Please remove all decorations, lights, tinsel and bases prior to recycling; if the tree is longer than six feet, cut the tree into pieces.

We are also reporting 208 new cases and 30 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 7,152, with 3,3360 recoveries and 72 deaths; 3,720 cases remain active.

Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Sat, 12/12/2020 - 10:04amFor the week ending December 5, initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) totaled 8,783, up 2,341 claims, or 36.3 percent, compared to the previous week’s total of 6,442 claims, according to finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR). This is only the second increase in regular initial claims activity since October 24. Through the week ending December 5, there have been a total of 783,384 initial claims filed in 2020, 761,732 of which have been filed since the week ending March 14.

The year that we watched the airplanes crash into the Twin Towers. The year we felt hopeless and confused and a desire to connect with people and with God. Seeing that need, the Carson City First United Methodist Church began what has become one of the most cherished Christmas traditions in Carson City.
