After months of sunny skies, no precipitation and fire weather concerns, National Weather Service forecasters say western Nevada and the Lake Tahoe areas may see a significant shift with possible rain and snow showers moving into the region by the first weekend of November.

Quad County COVID-19 Saturday update: 1 Carson City death, 16 new cases, 17 recoveries

Carson City Health and Human Service reported via social media Saturday, Oct. 31, 2020 that there is 1 additional death due to COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. The individual was a Carson City resident. We are also reporting 16 new cases and 17 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County Region. This brings the total number of cases to 1,870, with 1,678 recoveries and 23 deaths; 169 cases remain active.

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department will host a special Full Moon Hike this Saturday, October 31st, at Silver Saddle Ranch. Come experience a full moon costume adventure that can only happen once in a Blue Moon.

Meet at Silver Saddle Ranch dressed in your best Halloween Costume. We will walk to the Carson River and back to ranch in a 2 mile loop. The trail is considered Easy according to the IMBA Trail Rating System.

Some Nevada Day revelers to parade along Carson Street on their own

With Nevada Day festivities rolling this week without the coveted official parade along Carson Street, some have noted on social media their intention to rally their own independent parades.

While not illegal or encouraged, the Carson City Sheriff's Office is staffed up to make sure that whoever chooses to do anything non-sanctioned, including independent parading on Carson Street, that whatever they choose to do is done without breaking the law.

Accident with injury reported near Woodside Drive Saturday afternoon

Just before 3:45 p.m. on Saturday afternoon an accident with injury was reported near Woodside Drive.

There is only one vehicle involved at this time and the driver is out of the vehicle.

The driver was bleeding from his nose and mouth, and his car was smoking from the engine compartment.

East and westbound lanes shut down on Fairview and Saliman Saturday due to vehicle collision, careflight enroute

UPDATE 1:02 p.m.: Careflight has taken off and is now enroute to Renown with one patient.

UPDATE 12:48 p.m.: careflight has landed at the east side of the prison for transport.

Tows are enroute to Fairview and Saliman, both vehicles are inoperable.

Just before 12:40 p.m. a two vehicle crash was reported on Fairview and I-580.

According to deputies on scene one person is lying on the ground.

All westbound and eastbound traffic has been stopped on Fairview and traffic is being diverted.

Reverend Dr. Gary Robert Buchanan, local composer, conductor, Sonatherapist, minister at the International Community of Christ, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away on October 16, 2020, after a year-long fight against cancer. He is survived by his wife Amanda Buchanan, sons Bradley Buchanan of Ventura, California, and Kym Buchanan of Wisconsin, daughter Amy Buchanan-Rodriquez of Reno, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

DETR: Regular UI initial claims moderate, PUA initial claims increase noticeably; PEUC claims at 75,000

For the week ending October 17, initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) totaled 8,734 down 230 claims, or 2.6 percent, compared to last week’s total of 8,964 claims, according to finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR).

Through the week ending October 17, there have been 728,045 initial claims filed in 2020, 706,393 of which have been filed since the week ending March 14.

The nation is on track for a record-breaking voter turnout, and Nevada is following suit. During the 2016 election, Week 1 of Early Voting returned 8,527 ballots in Carson City, 6,972 in Lyon County, and 7,320 in Douglas County.

In addition to mailing ballots through the U.S. Postal Service, Carson City voters can submit mail ballots in three ways:
