Carson Middle School's annual Chili Bingo Night takes place this Friday, March 1, in the school's gym. The event begins at 6 p.m. Proceeds from this fundraiser go to Carson Middle School Band program which is raising money for new instruments, storage space, and upgraded percussion.

Despite snow on the ground, a Chinese New Year celebration will take place in downtown Carson City between the Nevada State Museum and the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada.

The ninth annual Carson High School Safe Grad Safe and Sober Run/Walk occurs at the CHS track.

And the 20th annual Feast of Chocolate, a scholarship fundraiser for the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Capital Branch, is being held at the Plaza Hotel Event Center.

This event is organized by volunteers of the Carson High Safe Grad Booster and will be held, once again, at the Carson High School Track-Field.

Carson City educators, students and families have stood together for the last few weeks in efforts to benefit schools in fire-devastated areas of northern California. All individuals involved learned lessons in kindness as well as how small efforts collectively may produce great and impactful outcomes.

CHS Social Studies teacher Angila Golik, along with teachers Curtis Kortemeier, Mike Malley and John Martin, and a few other teachers, wanting to help the fire victims in Paradise, Calif. have donated completed art pieces to be raffled among teachers and the Carson City community since many of them know someone affected by the fire.

Excitement abounds as teachers and students have been holding multiple events throughout Carson City this holiday season, everything from Christmas tree sales with CHS teacher and Adviser Ty McMillen’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes to the American Sign Language students of teacher Mary Anne Weaver putting on their Sign Me a Song Christmas production at the high school.

Twisted Scizzors Salon continues to host Kutz for Heroes. Saturday had a great turnout with support from Adam Laxalt, many local vendors and veteran services.

The salon will provide free haircuts for veterans, activity duty and first responders, plus they can find help locating available services. Event runs through 3 p.m. today, Sunday, November 4.

How about a high temperature of 74 degrees in the Nevada state capital on the first Sunday of November? That's according to the National Weather Service in Reno, and it ought to be motivation enough to get outside, soak up the warm weather and enjoy all that the Carson City area has to offer.

Twisted Scizzors Hair Salon in Carson City will hold its “Kutz for Heroes” this Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 3-4.

The salon will provide free haircuts for veterans, activity duty and first responders. Proceeds to benefit Red, White and Blue Dog Tags.

The Saturday, Nov. 3 event is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a 9 a.m. grand opening ceremony with Color Guard. Shelby Jackson will perform the National Anthem.

Today is the observed state holiday, where businesses are open but state and local government offices and schools are closed. Meanwhile, the capital city itself is getting warmed up for a three-day weekend and famed parade that celebrates statehood.

St. Peter's Episcopal Church in downtown Carson City at the corner of Telegraph and Division streets offers its annual Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Carson City's downtown Curry streetscape project will wrap up ahead of the Nevada Day parade with a ceremonial ribbon cutting ceremony Friday, Oct. 26 followed by the third annual Passport to Downtown celebration.

Kick off the Nevada Day weekend, enjoy all the Downtown Carson City has to offer and celebrate the completed Curry Street Improvement Project on Friday, Oct. 26 with live music, street performers and family fun while you get your free Passport stamped at participating, downtown businesses.

HopeFest8, an annual Carson Tahoe Health Foundation summer music concert fundraiser in support of local cancer patients, returns this Friday, Aug. 24 to Carson City.

We are running out of summer weekends. I know that’s hard to believe right now, but hoodies and everything pumpkin is just beyond the horizon. Grab summer with both hands and go enjoy this beautiful city. The Brewery Arts Center brings Dennis Johnson and the Mississippi Ramblers to the stage for tonight’s free concert. Check out the Railroad Museum for your fill of music and antique motor cars. Car lovers have two shows to choose from today: spectators will be able to enjoy both, but you’ll have to pick one if you want to enter your ride. Keep reading for more summertime fun.

It’s a very special Friday for the kids of Carson City: it’s the last day of summer vacation. Take full advantage of your free time and check out some of today’s activities. Live music at McFadden Plaza tonight features local cover band, Deception. The Bowers Mansion Bluegrass Festival kicks off tonight with a band in the Davis Creek Campground. The U.S. Air Force’s Jazz Ensemble performs at the Bob Boldrick Theater as part of the Jazz and Beyond Music Festival. The Carson Tahoe Health Foundation is excited to announce the official date for their annual fundraiser, HopeFest8, in support of local cancer patients.

Ready for a good time? The Carson City Fair runs all day and culminates with a special concert in the arena starring Journey Unlimited. Car lovers are in for a treat: you can head down to the Carson Mall for their monthly cruise night, or roll into the Max Casino to get registered for the 33rd annual Run Whatcha Brung Car Show. The Trippin King Snakes take the stage in McFadden Plaza for a free all-ages show. Break a leg to the kids of Youth Theater Carson City; they open their production of ‘Bye, Bye, Birdie’ at the Community Center this evening.
