The Carson City Fire Department is on scene near the Fox on Carson Street, and traffic is facing a slight delay, but there’s no accident. Instead, the delays are being caused by local residents slowing to give what they can to the firefighters raising money for “Climbing for a Cure,” a rigorous nation-wide stair climb in Seattle, which raises money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Join the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce for a Mardi Gras themed evening mixer hosted by the Granite Pointe Community.

We’ve got a bunch of great events in the region through the weekend, so check below!

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region over the next three days. Dozens of sweets are in store for Saturday. The American Association of University Women holds its 20th annual Feast of Chocolate at the Carson Plaza and Event Center. Artsy Fartsy Gallery hosts its 9th annual Jewelry and Chocolate Show with several new decorative pieces. To cap-off Saturday, the legendary Cab Calloway Orchestra makes its way to the capital city.

Move over — or roll over — Agatha Christie, Lollipop Productions is about to unveil a mystery dinner show that spoofs old-fashioned whodunits, the medical profession, “female problems,” and theater folks!

When half the cast of “Murder on the Oriental Rug” bails out, the remaining performers are stuck playing all the roles. During the first act, you’ll meet a Shakespearean actor with a drinking problem, a washed-up former child star, a bimbo with a short memory, and a hapless costumer who finds herself onstage — playing a man.

St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School will hold its 17th Annual Crab Feed Fundraiser on Saturday, March 7, 2020, beginning at 5 p.m. at the MAC, 1860 Russell Way, Carson City.

DAYTON, Nev. — The Dayton Chili Cookers are partnering with Healthy Communities Coalition’s Dayton Food Pantry for their annual chili cookoff, silent auction, and raffle to benefit the Pantry. Organizers say the community made this event a big success last year, when more than $3,700 was raised, and they are excited to see the turn out this year.

We’ve got a ton of great events going on today and tomorrow, so check below to see what’s happening!

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. The Union will host a dining fundraiser for the Greenhouse Project on Friday, and artist Jakota Wass performs at Bella Vita Bistro. The 43rd annual Wild Sheep Show will be held at the Reno-Sparks Convention. Comedian Marc Yaffee headlines the Carson Comedy Club on Saturday with much more in store for the weekend! Carson City’s The Wheelhouse, which specializes in all things skating, scootering, bicycling and more, has moved their location to 1800 E. William Street, Suite No. 1, to be closer to the Mills Park Skate Park and more centrally located within town.

The Wheelhouse has always been heavily involved in the Carson City community, from hosting skate and scooter competitions to one-on-one training sessions with kids, all with the value of instilling confidence and camaraderie in mind.

The first significant winter storm of 2020 will be blowing into the region Thursday afternoon, bringing gusty winds, heavy snow in the Sierra and 1-2 inches of snow possible in the lower valleys. Events lined up include a meeting of the Carson City Board of Supervisors, art showings, the kickoff of an After school Art 2020 program at the BAC, the 2020 Winter Reading Challenge at the Carson City Library and more.

Enjoy the sunny weather and a brief calm Wednesday morning through early evening before gusty winds blow into the region overnight, bringing rain and snow to the valleys and heavy snow to the Sierra by Thursday. Midweek events around town include the New Year's Show featured by the Nevada Artists Association, a women's Seeking Safety workshop, the 2020 Winter Reading Challenge at Carson City Library and more.

The second week of January has blown in quite fiercely, with a High Wind Warning to last through 1 p.m. Tuesday. Activities around the capital city include the 2020 Winter Reading Challenge at the library, a brown bag luncheon featuring famed environmental writer Michael Branch at the Nevada State Library and Archives, the weekly gathering of the Carson City Toastmasters at Max Casino, a meeting of the Carson City School Board, live cool jazz at Living the Good Life and more.

Moving forward to the first day of the work week, we're looking at sunny skies then blustery conditions Monday night and a slight chance of snow showers in the valleys into Tuesday morning. Activities around the capital city include the opening of the Stewart Indian School Cultural Center and Museum, the Winter Reading Challenge at the Carson City Library, a luncheon highlighting the campaign of Democratic presidential candidate Michael Bennet, plus a free yoga class at the community center and more. Heading into the weekend, there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the Nevada Artists Association New Year’s Show, and there’s a historical Curry family presentation at the Nevada State Museum. Famed country rock band I See Hawks in L.A. perform at the Historic Silver City Schoolhouse on Saturday. Combined with live music at Bella Vita Bistro, there’s plenty to do and see around the state capitol. Read on for more.

Heading into Thursday, today is Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. Across the country on January 9 each year, citizens take the lead to show support on National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. Law Enforcement Officers of every rank and file have chosen a profession that puts their life on the line every day for their communities. Thank you law enforcement. In other happenings, events are lined up throughout the day including art showings, an open invitation to a meeting of the Carson City Natives and Newcomers Club, A Prison Hill open space planning open house hosted by Parks and Rec, the 2020 Winter Reading Challenge at the Carson City Library, "School of Rock, the Senior Years" at the Brewery Arts Center and more.

Heading into midweek, the weather is expected to make an abrupt change with snow showers possible down to the valley floor late Wednesday night into Thursday. Going into Tuesday around the capital city we'll see partly sunny skies with highs in the low 50s. There's a slight chance of snow showers later in the evening but nothing significant. Activities around town include the 2020 Winter Reading Challenge at the Carson City Library, "School of Rock, Senior Years" at the Brewery Arts Center, exhibits, showings, Carson City Classic Cinema Club presents "Captain Blood" at the BAC Performance Hall, dance and exercise classes at Yaple's Ballroom and more.

With golf season rapidly approaching full swing, the Silver Oak Men’s Club is accepting applications for those 18 and over who desire a welcoming environment to play competitively with friends, co-workers, and even family members.

Heading into Monday and moving forward to the first full week of 2020 we're looking at mostly sunny skies and a daytime high near 50. Activities lined include the Winter Reading Challenge at the Carson City Library, organizers of the Pete Buttigieg presidential campaign will give a presentation, art activities, plus a free yoga class at the Community Center and more. Heading into the first weekend of 2020, there are several activities around the Carson City region lined over the next three days. Events include the Winter Round Up Run at Centennial Park, the Carson City Library 2020 Winter Reading Challenge, plus you can take a post-New Year's stroll while the weather is nice during Saturday's Downtown Carson City Wine Walk. Carson Mall will be sponsoring a Family BINGO night for the pop-warner cheer squad to go to Nationals! The event will take place on Saturday, Jan. 11 from 5 to 8 p.m. Refreshments will be able to be purchased. Prizes include gift cards, gift baskets and more.
