Going into the eve of Halloween, teeth will be chattering as the weather calls for sunny skies but with a chill in the air and daytime temperatures in the upper 40s around the capital city. Events around town Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019 include a Halloween costume walk at Riverview Park in Carson City, a "trick or trunk" event in Dayton, art showings, storytelling at the Carson City Library and more.

The ghosts and zombies and costume super heroes will be out and about now through Thursday, either at organized events or Halloween night trick or treating around the Carson City area, including the Carson Mall, throughout downtown and at the Governor's Mansion.

Come join the Carson City Parks, Rec and Open Space department at Riverview Park this Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. for the second annual Costume Hike. This year, we will be walking along the Carson River at Riverview Park learning about the history of Halloween. It will be a fun-filled adventure with opportunities for prizes, learning, and great photo opportunities.

Bring water, excellent costumes, flashlights, and your excitement! Riverview Park is located at 600 Marsh Rd, Carson City.

Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada is pleased to announce this year’s Triumphant: Celebrating Women in Leadership Dinner honorees. Six women, each representing one of the six Girl Scout focus areas, will be recognized at the 17th annual awards dinner on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2019, at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa in Reno.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region Friday through Sunday to celebrate Nevada Day. Activities include the annual parade down Carson Street, a carnival at Mills Park, the 30th annual Nevada Day Classic, The La Ka Lel Be Pow Wow at the MAC, beard and rock drilling contests, delicious food dishes, pancakes, chili and plenty of beverages to suit kids and adults of all ages.

Counting down the hours until the Nevada Day weekend celebration begins, we're heading into Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019 with sunny skies in the forecast through Sunday. Thursday opens the first of the four-day annual RSVP Nevada Day Carnival at Mills Park with $1 ride family night hosted by Carson City Toyota. It's that spooky time again, when the leaves begin to fall, Nevada Day is gearing up to bring us the best parade in the state, and our little ghouls and goblins are putting together their terrifying and adorable costumes in preparation for sugary chaos.

On Saturday, Oct. 19, The Carson Mall in Carson City will be hosting a Family Night Bingo to benefit a local family in their time of need.

The Billow family have been part of our community for 17 years and has been an influence in the community from Dennis Billow playing Santa and his family serving as helpers for community events and also volunteering with various local organizations.

CHS has many opportunities for students to become a part of something bigger than just themselves, not that making a name for oneself is a bad idea or anything, but it is up to the student to step on up, come on in, and check them out. There are so many clubs on campus; there are Interact Club meetings at lunch in CHS teacher Erin Been’s room every Thursday, and Been also advises the Represent Club.

Heading into Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019 and we're looking at continued sunshine and cool temperatures, with some warming in time for the weekend. Activities ahead around the capital city feature a workshop by Carson City TRIAD to prepare residents for Medicare open enrollment, a Muscle Powered led afternoon hike at Sedge Road, the grand opening of My Place Hotel, modern western square dancing lessons, art showings, library activities and more. Going into the second week of October, there's plenty of events around the capital city for this Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019 including a morning walk, evening hike and a bike ride with Muscle Powered. There's also art showings, the grand opening of Carson City's Postal Annex, family movie night at the Carson City Library featuring "Muppets from Space," as well as Big Band jazz music with a fall theme at Living the Good Life and more. Celebrating nearly three decades of turning the round, orange members of the squash family into memorable Halloween carving traditions, Seeliger Elementary School in Carson City will host its 27th annual Pumpkin Patch this Saturday, Oct. 12.

The Rose Buds Dance Band presents the Masquerade Ball at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City on Saturday, Oct. 12. Get ready to have a great time with a live 18-piece band. Masks and costumes are optional but if you don’t wear one you may not win the costume contest!

The new My Place Hotel located at 17 Hospitality Way in Carson City will host a Grand Opening on Thursday, October 10 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a ribbon cutting at 5:30 p.m.

Those in attendance will be able to tour the new hotel. There will also be prizes and giveaways, hors d’oeuvres, local food trucks, adult beverages, and there with be live KOZZ classic rock.

With October designated Breast Cancer Awareness Month, dozens joined Carson Tahoe Health for its 18th "Think Pink" breast cancer awareness event held Tuesday at Red's Old 395 Grill in Carson City, which hosts and sponsors the annual event.

An all-ages Halloween costume contest like no other in the Silver State will be hosted by RSVP during the Nevada Day Carnival at Mills Park in Carson City on Saturday, Oct. 26.

CARSON CITY — Get ready for more beer, brats and oompah bands! The Casino Fandango 6th annual Oktoberfest is Saturday, Oct. 5 and Sunday, Oct. 6. This annual event will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and admission is free.

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department, with the Pine Nut Mountains Trails Association and the Nevada Off-Highway Vehicle Commission, is sponsoring a volunteer Clean-Up Day at the Prison Hill Recreation Area in the OHV Area. The public is invited to come out and help.

National Honor Society held its induction ceremony Sept. 23 in the CHS Big Gym featuring guest speaker Ryan Costella a 2000 CHS graduate. Costella was an active member of NHS, and this fact influenced his desire to attend college at Villanova University in Philadelphia, PA where he earned degrees in Political Science and English.

CARSON CITY — Registration is under way for the Nevada’s 2020 Poetry Out Loud competition and high school teachers and students throughout the state are invited to get involved.

Friday Sept. 13, no bad luck on this day, beginning at 1:18 p.m. was an assembly in the Big Gym during the last class of the day as an introduction to CHS’ Happiest Homecoming on Earth. Leadership students led the assembly with the first activity being the introduction of the Homecoming King and Queen candidates who made their grand entrance onto the floor.
