Heading into Wednesday, June 12, 2019 means we are half way through the work week. Temperatures will be around the 90 mark with a chance of afternoon showers. Activities lined up include art classes, a hike designed for tots through Carson City Parks and Recreation, a Ninja aerobic class at Yaple's Ballroom and you can hear local author CW Bayer talk about three of his books on area history at Browsers Corner Book Store. Carson City University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, in partnership with Carson City Parks and Recreation and Friends of Silver Saddle Ranch, is offering two weekly sessions at Silver Saddle Ranch, 2648 Carson City Road in Carson City, for youth who are not able to keep or raise a small farm animal to experience working with either rabbits or goats. Area 4-H leaders will bring their animals for attendees, 9 – 14 years of age, to work with in these hands on day camps.

Carson High School students not only experienced exciting college, job, and career opportunities outside of school this past week, they were also presented with an explosion of options directly.

Chamber Orchestra Students returned from their successful regional music festival in San Francisco, several CHS students enjoyed job shadowing with Nevada Legislators, and May 21 offered students access to its job and career fair throughout the day.

Senator Cyclists adopts Wild Horse Trail, Carson City's newest mountain biking trail

Carson City’s Senator Cyclists adopted the newest biking trail in Carson, located behind the softball fields at the Centennial Sports Complex, and participated in a trail clean up Thursday afternoon despite the weather.

The Wild Horse Trail was created by then-Carson-High-Senior Connor McRae and Carson City’s muscle powered as a part of McRae’s senior project in 2018.

The weekend is at our doorstep as we head into Friday, May 10, 2019. Even though forecasters say we may have showers this weekend, the cool spring rain won't dampen the fun. We have a bevy of activities lined up Friday including the opening of the Transcontinental Railroad exhibit at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, day 1 of the two-day Mother's Day Plant Sale hosted by The Greenhouse Project, RSVP's Spring Celebration and Carnival at Mills Park, a day hike, art showings, live music and more.

Volunteers sought to help restore Carson City and Mills Park Railroad

With the goal of returning the railroad to operation this summer, the Carson City Railroad Association will be hosting Saturday track repair work sessions in Mills Park. CCRA would like to extend an invitation to any able-bodied volunteer willing to be a Gandy Dancer for a few hours on the Carson City and Mills Park Railroad.

New trees planted in Mills Park in honor of Carson City's 25th anniversary as Tree City on Arbor Day

To celebrate Carson City’s 25th anniversary of becoming a Tree City USA, Carson City Parks and Recreation with and the Before and After School Program planted new trees in Mills Park on Arbor Day.

Kids from the program, as well as the public, were treated to an education lesson following the planting about the importance of trees, and Mayor Bob Crowell wrote a proclamation for the event.

Our favorite sheep friends are working hard to reduce cheatgrass for fire season, and while people are permitted to go and coo over how adorable they are, multiple people have been also bringing their furry friends without leashing them, which scares the sheep and makes it difficult to perform their important work.

The Underwater Egg Hunt is back! Join Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space as they go on an egg hunt at the Carson City Aquatic Facility on Saturday, April 20.

Some eggs will be floating on top of the pool, some will be at the bottom of the pool. Egg hunts will be separated by age group in various pools at the Carson Aquatic Facility. The event runs from 2 to 5 p.m.

Registration is required in advance this year. You can register at www.carson.org/ccpr

The event is free and open to children up to 12-years of age. Children 6 and under must be with a participating adult.

Carson City Parks and Recreation to celebrate Arbor Day 2019 with Mills Park tree planting

Carson City will mark its 25th year of being a Tree City USA member by hosting a tree planting ceremony at Mills Park on Friday, April 26.

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space department welcomes all community members to celebrate with us as we plant a new tree in Mills Park and read Mayor Bob Crowell's proclamation. The event runs from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
