Heading into Tuesday, June 18, 2019 we're looking at continued warming around the region with a daytime high around 91. Temperatures are expected to actually lower toward the end of the week. Events around town Tuesday include a Muscle Powered walk, hike and bike ride, yoga, exercises for the mind and body hosted by the Carson City Emblem Club, political gatherings, art activities and more.

Heading into Wednesday, June 12, 2019 means we are half way through the work week. Temperatures will be around the 90 mark with a chance of afternoon showers. Activities lined up include art classes, a hike designed for tots through Carson City Parks and Recreation, a Ninja aerobic class at Yaple's Ballroom and you can hear local author CW Bayer talk about three of his books on area history at Browsers Corner Book Store. The Fourth Annual Carson City Off-Road is dedicated to Carson City native and visionary trails community leader, Joel Dunn. Born and raised in Carson City, Dunn has not only witnessed the evolution of Nevada's state capital but has also been a driving force in its transition into a recreation-focused community.

Carson City University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, in partnership with Carson City Parks and Recreation and Friends of Silver Saddle Ranch, is offering two weekly sessions at Silver Saddle Ranch, 2648 Carson City Road in Carson City, for youth who are not able to keep or raise a small farm animal to experience working with either rabbits or goats. Area 4-H leaders will bring their animals for attendees, 9 – 14 years of age, to work with in these hands on day camps.

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space will offer two bicycle programs this summer, one designed for children and the other for adults and teens.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will be held Thursday, June 6, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

To be discussed are funding, contract purchases, grants, special event costs, and more.

Lace up your walking shoes, pack a lunch, grab a fishing pole and head to any of Nevada's public parks this Saturday, June 8 for “Discover Nevada State Parks” day. Visitors will receive free day-use admission at all of Nevada’s State Parks and the opportunity to fish without a license throughout the Silver State.

Carson High School students not only experienced exciting college, job, and career opportunities outside of school this past week, they were also presented with an explosion of options directly.

Chamber Orchestra Students returned from their successful regional music festival in San Francisco, several CHS students enjoyed job shadowing with Nevada Legislators, and May 21 offered students access to its job and career fair throughout the day.

Carson City’s Senator Cyclists adopted the newest biking trail in Carson, located behind the softball fields at the Centennial Sports Complex, and participated in a trail clean up Thursday afternoon despite the weather.

The Wild Horse Trail was created by then-Carson-High-Senior Connor McRae and Carson City’s muscle powered as a part of McRae’s senior project in 2018.

As we head into the middle of the month many of us haven't turned on the air conditioner because the weather outside has been comfortably, pleasantly air conditioned these past few weeks. And now with valley rain, wind and Sierra snow on the way, we tip our hat to one Carson Now reader, LaNair, who pledged he wouldn't turn on their heater these next few days because, well, it is May after all. The Foundation for Cason City Parks and Recreation announces its Annual Membership Meeting. The meeting will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 15 at the Wungnema House in Mills Park.

The weekend is at our doorstep as we head into Friday, May 10, 2019. Even though forecasters say we may have showers this weekend, the cool spring rain won't dampen the fun. We have a bevy of activities lined up Friday including the opening of the Transcontinental Railroad exhibit at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, day 1 of the two-day Mother's Day Plant Sale hosted by The Greenhouse Project, RSVP's Spring Celebration and Carnival at Mills Park, a day hike, art showings, live music and more.

With the goal of returning the railroad to operation this summer, the Carson City Railroad Association will be hosting Saturday track repair work sessions in Mills Park. CCRA would like to extend an invitation to any able-bodied volunteer willing to be a Gandy Dancer for a few hours on the Carson City and Mills Park Railroad.

To celebrate Carson City’s 25th anniversary of becoming a Tree City USA, Carson City Parks and Recreation with and the Before and After School Program planted new trees in Mills Park on Arbor Day.

Kids from the program, as well as the public, were treated to an education lesson following the planting about the importance of trees, and Mayor Bob Crowell wrote a proclamation for the event.

Good morning Carson City and happy Saturday! It’s going to be a bit breezy today with 14 mph winds, partly cloudy skies and a high of 61 degrees. Low will be 39. Easter weekend has officially begun, and on the docket today we have the Underwater Easter Egg Hunt, the Carson Mall Candy Walk, a wildflower walk through King’s Canyon, and more!

Our favorite sheep friends are working hard to reduce cheatgrass for fire season, and while people are permitted to go and coo over how adorable they are, multiple people have been also bringing their furry friends without leashing them, which scares the sheep and makes it difficult to perform their important work.

Easter is this upcoming weekend, which means there will be a lot of small children, colored eggs, pastel colors, bunnies, candy, and festive spirits to be had. But Easter Sunday isn't the only day for egg hunts. Here's a list of upcoming egg-related activities for Carson City residents.

There are still six garden beds available for use this season at the Carson City Community Garden for residents who are interested in growing their own vegetables, herbs and flowers.

A number of Easter egg hunts are planned around the capital city beginning this weekend with the "Downtown EGGstravaganza" hosted by the Carson City Downtown Business Association.

The Carson City Gun Range is currently in the design phase which should take about three to four months, according to Carson City Parks and Recreation.

The Underwater Egg Hunt is back! Join Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space as they go on an egg hunt at the Carson City Aquatic Facility on Saturday, April 20.

Some eggs will be floating on top of the pool, some will be at the bottom of the pool. Egg hunts will be separated by age group in various pools at the Carson Aquatic Facility. The event runs from 2 to 5 p.m.

Registration is required in advance this year. You can register at www.carson.org/ccpr

The event is free and open to children up to 12-years of age. Children 6 and under must be with a participating adult.

Carson City will mark its 25th year of being a Tree City USA member by hosting a tree planting ceremony at Mills Park on Friday, April 26.

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space department welcomes all community members to celebrate with us as we plant a new tree in Mills Park and read Mayor Bob Crowell's proclamation. The event runs from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

An Earth Day Celebration of Pollinators is set for April 28, 2019 at the historic Foreman-Roberts House Museum in Carson City. This will be a welcoming event for children and families seeking to learn more about the Earth and value of conserving resources.

Pollinators, like honey bees, bumble bees, and monarch butterflies, are in serious need of quality habitat in northern Nevada. If you’d like to be a part of this awesome community garden that will be a haven for these important species, we’d love your help!

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space will be raking and picking out the shrubbery to make room for spring planting, so make sure to bring water, sunscreen, and comfy clothes. Gloves and snacks will be provided. The event is from 9 a.m. to noon. Click on flier for more details.

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department will host a “Watershed Walk” hiking tour this Saturday, March 9 beginning at 1 p.m. at Riverview Park.

The Board of Supervisors will hold its next meeting on March 7, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, located at 851 East William Street.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit is seeking public comments for the annual California Department of Parks and Recreation, Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division grant application.

As we celebrate Women’s History Month, we want to acknowledge local women who have blazed the trail for today’s women continuing to make a difference in a world once dominated by men. It wasn’t so very long ago men dominated the highest non-elected positions in Carson City government.
