Carson City public safety column: Teen drinking on New Year's Eve is not only illegal but dangerous

Every year the Carson City Sheriff's Office respond to reports of juveniles drinking at residences. Often these calls come in due to the music playing too loud, vehicles being parked illegally or a disturbance has broken out.

Hosted by the Friends of the Carson City Library and the Carson City Library Foundation, the event runs from 6 to 10 pm in the Carson Nugget Ballroom.
Missing Petaluma woman Alyssa Byrne found dead near South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 01/04/2013 - 12:12pmThe body of Alysssa Byrne, missing since attending the SnowGlobe Music Festival and last seen by friends late New Year's Eve night or in Stateline early Jan. 1, was found this morning, Douglas County Sheriff's Office reports.
Byrne, 19, was found at 8:30 a.m. just outside the city limits of South Lake Tahoe. A utility worker discovered the remains just off Pioneer Trail, between Black Bart and Al Tahoe. The location is approximately one mile west of the Snow Globe Music Festival, authorities said.
Reno woman found safe, Petaluma woman remains missing after attending South Lake Tahoe party
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 01/02/2013 - 6:34pmUPDATE: 8:27 PM: The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the 21-year-old Reno woman reported missing since early New Year's day, Chantel Good, has been found unhurt. Still missing is a 19-year-old Petaluma woman, Alyssa Marie Byrne.
UPDATE 7:35PM: Reno Channel 2 KTVN reports that a 21-year-old Reno woman is missing as well as a 19-year-old Petaluma woman.
Chantel Good is described as 5 foot 4 inches and was last seen wearing brown boots, a flower-printed blue dress, a creme/beige pullover sweater, and a pink Aztec-design sweater. She was holding a brown satchel.

Carson City sheriff reports stabbing victim at house party taken to hospital
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 01/01/2013 - 2:16pmA 22-year-old Carson City man was stabbed and suffered a puncture to the lungs in a fight that happened at a New Year's Eve house party on Rex Circle late Monday night, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong reports.
The man, Adam Gaudette, was flown by Care Flight and was at last report in stable condition, said Furlong. Arrested was Leo Reyes Jacinto, 33, who faces a charge of battery with a deadly weapon. He is being held on $30,000 bail.
Northern Nevada Guard trains in Las Vegas during New Year's holiday
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 12/30/2012 - 11:49pmAbout 400 Nevada guardsmen have begun training at various locations on and off the Las Vegas Strip on New Year's Eve this year for the 12th annual Vigilant Sentinel training exercise. The training is also being done in conjunction with the Las Vegas Metro Police. More than half of the guardsmen participating are from Northern Nevada. About 300,000 people are expected to party on the Las Vegas Strip on Monday, according to Las Vegas Metro Police.

More than 3.5 feet of new snow at Lake Tahoe ski resorts

“You just never know how these storms are going to play out,” said Chief Marketing Officer Andy Chapman of the North Lake Tahoe Chamber/CVB/Resort Association. “But Mother Nature cooperated and we’ve got new snow on the mountains.”
Carson City battalion chief's name to be added to memorial wall
Submitted by editor on Wed, 10/10/2012 - 9:58amThe name of Carson City Fire Battalion Chief Richard Chrzanowski, who died of cancer, will be added during ceremonies Saturday to the Nevada State Fire Fighters Memorial wall.
Chrzanowski, known to everyone as “Ski,” was diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer the day before Thanksgiving in 2009. He died on New Year's eve some five weeks later with his family by his side.
Walnut Creek man dies after being struck by CHP patrol SUV at Lake Tahoe
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 01/01/2012 - 2:57amUPDATED 11:30AM: A 21-year-old Walnut Creek, Calif. man was struck and killed by a California Highway Patrol vehicle early Sunday morning, New Year's Day, on Highway 50 near Stateline at Lake Tahoe, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
The accident happened between Lake Village and Elks Point Road and was reported around 12:40 a.m. Sunday morning, said NHP Troopers Mike Edgell and Chuck Allen. The pedestrian, whose identity has not been released pending notification of family, died at the scene of the accident.

Such is the case with "New Year's Eve," a multifaceted comedy of sorts playing at the Fandango Galaxy cinema in Carson City. The cast is all-star, from Hilary Swank to Robert De Niro. And while the film is pure twaddle, director Gary Marshall keeps all the balls in the air. And he should be able to; he made the same movie last year on a Valentine's Day theme.
