With just a few hours of 2016 remaining on the West Coast, arguably the world's largest New Year's Eve bash in New York City's Times Square culminated at 9 p.m. Pacific Standard Time with the real time midnight ball drop watched by guests at the Carson Plaza Hotel Events Center Saturday night in Carson City.

Are you ready for this? New Year’s weekend is upon us and brings with it hope and optimism for the New Year. Resolutions are made, parties are planned, and the kids are smack dab in the middle of their winter break. The chilly weather makes it a perfect time to bake cookies, catch up on the Carson City Library’s Winter Read-a-thon, or hit the shops with those holiday gift cards.

Reno and Tahoe are predictable go-tos for New Year’s Eve, but they definitely aren’t the only game around. For plenty of good times but without the drive, read on and discover where to celebrate in Carson City, Dayton, Virginia City, Genoa, and Minden/Gardnerville.

Carson City:

Law enforcement is preparing for the annual New Year's Eve party held at Stateline, an outdoor gathering that at one time saw 50,000 people in the streets.

Friends of the Carson City Library is hosting a New York New Year's Eve Party on Dec. 31st from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Carson Plaza Event Center, 211 E. 9th Street.

Proceeds from this event will provide funds to the Carson City Library for equipment. Dinner will be a buffet of tri-tip or shrimp.

Join us as we ring in the New Year, New York, style, in a 'New York Minute'. Saturday, December 31, 2016. Price includes fancy hors d'oeuvres, champagne toast, balloon drop and party favors.

Dance to Reno's well-known big band sound of Deep Groove. Watch a live feed from Times Square as we count down as the ball drops and we ring in the new year East Coast time. We should all be in bed by 10:30 and who doesn't like that? Proceeds to benefit Piper's Opera House Programs.

Susan Crowell, wife of Mayor Bob Crowell of Carson City, is a mixture of strength, forthrightness, and intrigue. We’ve made it, Carson City! Today is the last day of 2015, so get your resolutions handy. I’ve got your usual list of all that’s going on in town, organized by start time, but I’ve grouped all of the New Year’s festivities together at the bottom. Carson City revelers can ring in the New Year in the grand style of the Big Apple during the annual New York New Year’s Eve Black and White Ball 6-10 p.m. Dec. 31.

Partygoers will celebrate with the East Coast as the ball drops on Times Square at 9 p.m. Pacific Standard Time as part of the celebration, which benefits Carson City Library.

The Friends of Carson City Library are giving away two free tickets to the New York New Year's Eve party to the person who finds them hidden in a book in the Browsers Corner Book Store.

A new clue will be revealed each day until the tickets are found.

Clue #1: Come in to Browsers Corner Book Store for a warm welcome. Guess what? The book you are looking for isn't straight ahead. Think numbers 3,4,5 and don't strike out!

Clue #2: Don't look high and don't look low, look straight ahead for a large paperback book.

The SnowGlobe Music Festival announced additional artists to its fifth anniversary countdown to New Year's lineup, held over three days in South Lake Tahoe, Dec. 29 to New Year's Eve.

Hosted in the heart of South Lake Tahoe, the high-energy hip hop and EDM music festival offers more than 50 world-class artists performing on multiple stages and culminating in an impressive firework show.

Lake Tahoe Cruises announced that their boat "Tahoe Paradise" will be operating the company's sightseeing and dinner cruises instead of the M.S. Dixie II beginning Wednesday, Jan. 21.

The Tahoe Paradise will operate out of the Ski Run Marina. Lake Tahoe Cruises' other boat, the Tahoe Queen, has been out of operation since an incident at the end of their New Year's Eve cruise caused the boat to stop. Initial reports from the Coast Guard said the boat ran aground on sand due to low water levels.

A Carson City Sheriff's Office detective said Tuesday that the sheriff's office has located a missing teen runaway. The 17-year-old was found with her mother, said Detective Steve Olson, after the two were spotted with each other on New Year's Eve.

Ismeray is safe. Her mother, however, had a warrant for her arrest on a parole and probation violation and was arrested.
The teen was listed as a runaway after leaving her home Dec. 26.

In an all-emcompassing gesture of global peace and goodwill, a celebration among Northern Nevada religious faithful came together in Reno late Wednesday, New Year's Eve, to celebrate the ringing in of 2015.

Coordinated by religious statesman Rajan Zed, “Multi-faith New Years’ Eve Service” hosted by Reno Buddhist Center included prayers by Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, Baha’i and Native American leaders.

The Nevada Highway Patrol continues to investigate a New Year's Eve accident Wednesday in which a man walking across East McCarran was struck and killed by a vehicle driven by a Fallon woman.

The accident happened at around 8:15 p.m. Troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol were dispatched to vehicle versus pedestrian accident south of Prater Way near Lincoln Way in Sparks, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson.

The Carson Nugget threw down the ultimate disco-era themed New Year's Eve party Wednesday night to ring in the new year. Illuminated disco balls, streamers, balloons, dancing and music all played out as party-goers celebrated the arrival of 2015.

A Carson City man was arrested early New Year's morning and faces a felony charge of drug possession with intent to sell after officers recovered more than an ounce of marijuana and a scale to weigh it with the word "work" taped to it.

Paul John Bekakis, 29, was arrested at 3:25 a.m. near Sixth and Carson streets and was booked into Carson City jail on the drug charge. According to the arrest report, officers did a traffic stop suspecting the driver was under the influence. Officers could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the car.
