Holiday season and two winter storms slow December blood donations
Submitted by editor on Mon, 12/10/2018 - 3:20pmApproaching Christmas Day, Vitalant in Northern Nevada, formerly United Blood Services, is aiming to collect more than 3,500 donations in December to increase the community blood supply. Recent winter storms have caused blood drive cancellations and reduced blood collections at local Vitalant donation centers.

Three Northern Nevada Correctional Center inmates in Carson City die over weekend

The cases are unrelated and there is no evidence of foul play in any of the deaths, said Brooke Santina, public information officer.

Carson City Republican Women's Club to host installation dinner

Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. with a sit down dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for this event are $40 each which include appetizers, salad, entree of salmon and a beef filet, vegetables, dessert and choice of beverages. Friends To All Senior Santa Visits take to the streets of Carson City

The group, a nonprofit organization, has been providing visits to seniors in the community since 1999. More than 45 volunteers dressed as Santa and Helpers covered the City bringing their message "Touching Hearts with a Visit."

Stolen vehicle leads Carson City Sheriff's deputies on pursuit into Washoe Valley
Submitted by Brett Fisher on Sat, 12/08/2018 - 7:07pmUPDATE SUNDAY: A man was arrested Saturday night in the North Valley area of Washoe County by Nevada Highway Patrol troopers and a Carson City sheriff's sergeant following a pursuit involving a stolen vehicle that began in Carson City, said Sheriff Ken Furlong. The Carson City suspect, now in Washoe County custody, was arrested at around 8:30 p.m.
According to Furlong, CCSO scaled back its pursuit once it crossed the county line but followed the suspect vehicle through Washoe Valley. The vehicle crashed and the suspect attempted to flee but was caught by arriving CCSO and NHP officers. The suspect faces charges related to the pursuit, driving a stolen vehicle and being a felon in possession of a firearm, said Furlong.

An attempted traffic stop on a vehicle identified as stolen out of Sparks turned into a failure to yield and a pursuit by Carson City Sheriff's deputies into Washoe Valley Saturday night.

Food Pantry seeks gifts for Stagecoach, Silver Springs children and seniors

The event includes a chance for children to visit with Santa and have holiday refreshments while their parents shop. The Pantry is in need of gifts for ages infant to 18 years.
Home-bound Seniors: The Pantry also welcomes donations of gifts for seniors. They deliver baskets and gifts to 40 home-bound elders, and sing carols to them as well.
Dayton Food Pantry in need of hams, sleeping bags during holidays
